Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Palliative expeditiously adaptive quad shot radiotherapy for head and neck cancers (PEAQ-RT)

open access: yesClinical and Translational Radiation Oncology
Purpose/objective: Quad shot radiotherapy (QS-RT) is integral to head and neck cancer palliative care, but multiple CT-simulations for QS-RT cycles can be burdensome for patients. We evaluated the ability of an online adaptive radiotherapy (ART) workflow

Minor variations in multicellular life cycles have major effects on adaptation.

open access: yesPLoS Computational Biology, 2023
Multicellularity has evolved several independent times over the past hundreds of millions of years and given rise to a wide diversity of complex life. Recent studies have found that large differences in the fundamental structure of early multicellular ...

Implementation of Driving Cycles Based on Driving Style Characteristics of Autonomous Vehicles

open access: yesWorld Electric Vehicle Journal, 2022
The standardized driving cycles, which are used around the globe for the development and homologation of automobiles, consist of a series of speed points versus time, to represent typical driving conditions and to exclude the influence of a human driver.

Adaptive negative cycle detection in dynamic graphs [PDF]

open access: yesISCAS 2001. The 2001 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (Cat. No.01CH37196), 2001
We examine the problem of detecting negative cycles in a dynamic graph, which is a fundamental problem that arises in electronic design automation and systems theory. We introduce the concept of adaptive negative cycle detection, in which a graph changes over time, and negative cycle detection needs to be done periodically, but not necessarily after ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Modeling CD4+ T cells dynamics in HIV-infected patients receiving repeated cycles of exogenous Interleukin 7 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Combination Antiretroviral Therapy (cART) succeeds to control viral replication in most HIV infected patients. This is normally followed by a reconstitution of the CD4$^+$ T cells pool; however, this does not happen for a substantial proportion of ...

Adaptive weight estimator for quantum error correction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Quantum error correction of a surface code or repetition code requires the pairwise matching of error events in a space-time graph of qubit measurements, such that the total weight of the matching is minimized.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
