Genetic association analyses implicate aberrant regulation of innate and adaptive immunity genes in the pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus

open access: yesNature Genetics, 2015
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a genetically complex autoimmune disease characterized by loss of immune tolerance to nuclear and cell surface antigens.

Adaptive Immunity [PDF]

open access: yesStroke, 2007
The 3 talks in this session all deal with aspects of immune response regulation and dysregulation that can be either protective or harmful in brain ischemia. As an introduction to this session, I will review several models of immune response regulation and relate these models to the upcoming talks.1 Under normal circumstances, antigen presenting cells (

Transcriptional regulation of neuropeptide receptors underlies context‐dependent adaptation in Drosophila melanogaster

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Under environmental changes, the expression level of neuropeptide (NP) and neuropeptide receptor (NPR) genes changes to confer context‐dependent adaptation to the model organism Drosophila melanogaster. Through finding more regulatory elements in the NPR genes in comparison with their ligands (NPs), we found that NPR‐biased transcriptional regulation ...

Modelling cross-reactivity and memory in the cellular adaptive immune response to influenza infection in the host

open access: yes, 2016
The cellular adaptive immune response plays a key role in resolving influenza infection. Experiments where individuals are successively infected with different strains within a short timeframe provide insight into the underlying viral dynamics and the ...

Mitochondria‐associated membranes (MAMs): molecular organization, cellular functions, and their role in health and disease

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Mitochondria‐associated membranes (MAMs) are contact sites between the endoplasmic reticulum and mitochondria that regulate calcium signaling, lipid metabolism, autophagy, and stress responses. This review outlines their molecular organization, roles in cellular homeostasis, and how dysfunction drives neurodegeneration, metabolic disease, cancer, and ...

Tick-borne encephalitis virus variants drive distinct TCR repertoire alterations

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
BackgroundT cells play a crucial role in the adaptive immune response against acute virus infections. The extensive diversity of T cell receptors (TCRs) presents a complex challenge for understanding its implications in immune responses.

Indoleamine 2,3‐dioxygenase 1 inhibition reverses cancer‐associated fibroblast‐mediated immunosuppression in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CAF‐mediated immunosuppression in ovarian cancer is driven by IDO1, reducing T‐cell function. Inhibiting IDO1 restores T‐cell proliferation and cytotoxicity, increases cancer cell apoptosis, and may help overcome CAF‐induced immune suppression in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer. Targeting IDO1 may improve antitumor immunity.

Multiscale model for the effects of adaptive immunity suppression on the viral therapy of cancer

open access: yes, 2013
Oncolytic virotherapy - the use of viruses that specifically kill tumor cells - is an innovative and highly promising route for treating cancer. However, its therapeutic outcomes are mainly impaired by the host immune response to the viral infection.
