Digital twins to accelerate target identification and drug development for immune‐mediated disorders

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Digital twins integrate patient‐derived molecular and clinical data into personalised computational models that simulate disease mechanisms. They enable rapid identification and validation of therapeutic targets, prediction of drug responses, and prioritisation of candidate interventions.

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.

Adaptive Under Frequency Load Shedding Scheme Using Genetic Algorithm Based Artificial Neural Network [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, 2019
This paper presents two schemes of UFLS to keep the system frequency within safe limits. GA-based scheme is introduced as an offline method to get the proper amount of shed load achieving the minimum and steady state frequency within permissible limits ...

Derivation and characterization of retinal pigment epithelium from urine‐derived iPSCs

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Age‐related macular degeneration causes vision loss via RPE dysfunction and loss. Traditional iPSC therapies rely on invasive biopsies, limiting scalability. Here, we utilize urine‐derived stem cells as an accessible source to generate u‐iPSCs, successfully differentiated into pigmented RPE. This “Urine‐to‐Retina” platform provides a promising path for

Temperature-Adaptive Branch Rotation Within an Efficiency-Oriented Control Framework for Interleaved Bidirectional DC–DC Converters Applied to Battery Energy Storage Systems

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Bidirectional Interleaved Converters (BICs) are widely used in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESSs) due to their modular structure, high efficiency, and reduced current ripple. However, under partial-load operation, conventional control strategies with

High Specification Offshore Blades. Work Package: 1C – Blade Materials. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Blades are regarded as the only component unique to wind turbine blades. They represent only 10 – 15% of the total system cost so the perception is that a reduction in the cost of energy through blade cost improvements is constrained.

Oxide‐Free Titanium Coatings by Wire Arc Spraying in a Silane‐Doped Inert Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A silane‐doped argon atmosphere enables the production of oxide‐free titanium coatings via twin‐wire arc spraying at ambient pressure. This innovative approach eliminates residual oxygen, creating process conditions that prevent oxidation and nitride formation.

Adaptive Under-Frequency Load Shedding Scheme in System Integrated with High Wind Power Penetration: Impacts and Improvements

open access: yesEnergies, 2017
As the requirements of economical operation and reliability on power grid are enhanced gradually nowadays, the existing under frequency load shedding (UFLS) scheme is not quite fit for the modern power system that integrates high wind power.

An Adaptive Control Scheme for Variable Speed Wind Turbines Providing Frequency Regulation in Isolated Power Systems with Thermal Generation

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
The lack of synchronous inertia, associated with the relevant penetration of variable speed wind turbines (VSWTs) into isolated power systems, has increased their vulnerability to strong frequency deviations.
