Effect of Wavefront Distortion in Non-Kolmogorov Turbulence on the Performance of Multi-Beam Transmission Coherent Detection

open access: yesPhotonics, 2023
This study aims to address the multi-beam transmission problem of optical wireless coherent communication systems under the influence of non-Kolmogorov turbulence.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

The Robo-AO-2 facility for rapid visible/near-infrared AO imaging and the demonstration of hybrid techniques [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We are building a next-generation laser adaptive optics system, Robo-AO-2, for the UH 2.2-m telescope that will deliver robotic, diffraction-limited observations at visible and near-infrared wavelengths in unprecedented numbers.

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Local, hierarchic, and iterative reconstructors for adaptive optics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Adaptive optics systems for future large optical telescopes may require thousands of sensors and actuators. Optimal reconstruction of phase errors using relative measurements requires feedback from every sensor to each actuator, resulting in ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Experimental Demonstration of Sequential Operation Approach for a Three-Sided Pyramid Wavefront Sensor

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2016
We describe a sequential operation approach for a three-sided pyramid wavefront sensor (PWFS) based on a micromirror array with hexagonal geometry. The geometrical optics analysis and numerical simulations show that a linear relationship exists between ...

Commissioning ShARCS: the Shane Adaptive optics infraRed Camera-Spectrograph for the Lick Observatory 3-m telescope

open access: yes, 2014
We describe the design and first-light early science performance of the Shane Adaptive optics infraRed Camera-Spectrograph (ShARCS) on Lick Observatory's 3-m Shane telescope. Designed to work with the new ShaneAO adaptive optics system, ShARCS is capable

NFIRAOS First Facility AO System for the Thirty Meter Telescope [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
NFIRAOS, the Thirty Meter Telescope's first adaptive optics system is an order 60x60 Multi-Conjugate AO system with two deformable mirrors. Although most observing will use 6 laser guide stars, it also has an NGS-only mode. Uniquely, NFIRAOS is cooled to

Targeted modulation of IGFL2‐AS1 reveals its translational potential in cervical adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cervical adenocarcinoma patients face worse outcomes than squamous cell carcinoma counterparts despite similar treatment. The identification of IGFL2‐AS1's differential expression provides a molecular basis for distinguishing these histotypes, paving the way for personalized therapies and improved survival in vulnerable populations globally.
