Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Risk-Adaptive Local Decision Rules

open access: yesOperations Research
The decision rules developed in this paper help managers recognize relationships between data and decisions and prescribe courses of actions that are guaranteed near-optimal as well as transparent and interpretable. Transparency and interpretability are prerequisites for any decision support tool that needs to be conveyed, understood, and justified ...

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

Enhanced Numerical Techniques for Selective Integration Using Error Correction Methods

open access: yesIbn Al-Haitham Journal for Pure and Applied Sciences
Classical numerical integration methods, such as Simpson’s rule and Gaussian quadrature, perform well for smooth functions but lose accuracy near discontinuities.

Local Degree of Freedom of Clutter for Reduced-Dimension Space-Time Adaptive Processing with MIMO Radar

open access: yesInternational Journal of Antennas and Propagation, 2018
Degree of freedom (DOF) of clutter in the reduced-dimension (RD) domain, which is called local DOF (LDOF), is of great importance for RD MIMO-STAP (space-time adaptive processing for multiple-input multiple-output radar) algorithms.
