An $hp$-Adaptive Newton-Galerkin Finite Element Procedure for Semilinear Boundary Value Problems

open access: yes, 2016
In this paper we develop an $hp$-adaptive procedure for the numerical solution of general, semilinear elliptic boundary value problems in 1d, with possible singular perturbations. Our approach combines both a prediction-type adaptive Newton method and an

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Lunar cycles of reproduction in the clown anemonefish Amphiprion percula: individual-level strategies and population-level patterns [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Lunar cycles of reproduction are a widespread phenomenon in marine invertebrates and vertebrates. It is common practice to infer the adaptive value of this behavior based on the population level pattern.

ADAPTIVE CLUSTERING WITH MISSING VALUES

open access: yesRadio Electronics, Computer Science, Control, 2012
In this paper the adaptive neural network system that solves the clustering problem of data with gaps is proposed. This system allows to process the data in the on-line mode with a constant correction of recoverable table’s elements and centers of clusters. A proposed neural system has high speed and simple numerical realization.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Improving sustainability through intelligent cargo and adaptive decision making [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In the current society, logistics is faced with the challenge to meet more stringent sustainability goals. Shippers and transport service providers both aim to reduce the carbon footprint of their logistic operations.

Analysis and Design of Adaptive OCDMA Passive Optical Networks

open access: yes, 2016
OCDMA systems can support multiple classes of service by differentiating code parameters, power level and diversity order. In this paper, we analyze BER performance of a multi-class 1D/2D OCDMA system and propose a new approximation method that can be ...

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Delay Estimator and Improved Proportionate Multi-Delay Adaptive Filtering Algorithm [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This paper pertains to speech and acoustic signal processing, and particularly to a determination of echo path delay and operation of echo cancellers. To cancel long echoes, the number of weights in a conventional adaptive filter must be large.

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.
