Current shear and turbulence during a near-inertial wave
Surface currents and turbulent mixing were observed during a near-inertial wave (NIW) using an accousting doppler current profiler (ADCP) and satellite-tracked drifters.

DESPIKING HIGH-RESOLUTION ADCP DATA
Our main instruments for collecting current flow velocity data are acoustic Doppler sensors. An inherent issue with application of this type of instrument is that the observed data are contaminated by spurious records. Detecting and replacing becomes important in turbulence studies.

A new methodology for the quantitative visualization of coherent flow structures in alluvial channels using multibeam echo-sounding (MBES) [PDF]
In order to investigate the interactions between turbulence and suspended sediment transport in natural aqueous environments, we ideally require a technique that allows simultaneous measurement of fluid velocity and sediment concentration for the whole ...

Within-Event Spatially Distributed Bedload: Linking Fluvial Sediment Transport to Morphological Change [PDF]
Maps of apparent bedload velocity are presented along with maps of associated channel change. Apparent bedload velocity is the bias in acoustic Doppler current profiler (aDcp) bottom track (Doppler sonar) due to near-bed particle motion (Rennie et al ...

Submerged dunes and breakwater embayments mapped using wave inversions of shore-mounted marine X-Band radar data [PDF]
Surveying very shallow coastal areas, particularly around coastal defences, can be a logistically difficult and time consuming process. A marine-radar based bathymetry mapping technique has been used to remotely map the embayments around a series of ...

Seabed classification in the Gulf of Alaska from acoustic surveys using deep learning
Abstract High‐resolution mapping of seafloor habitats has wide applications for fisheries, conservation efforts, offshore infrastructure planning, mineral extraction, and scientific modeling. This study leverages existing widespread single‐beam acoustic data and machine learning to create habitat maps for the Gulf of Alaska at a spatial resolution of ...

Enabling Under Ice Glider Operations: A Backseat Driver Approach
ABSTRACT Polar Oceans are key locations for forcing global ocean circulation, influencing both global climate and biogeochemical cycles. Due to restricted access to these seasonally and perennially ice‐covered regions, these areas are severely undersampled.

ADCP currents west Yucatan shelf
Current profile measurements off Sisal, Yucatan, Mexico (21.27529º N, 90.051780º W) and off Campeche, Campeche, Mexico (19.973º N,90.87473º W). The tidal signal was eliminated with a 48-hour Lanczos filter. The time is in UTC. Data was gathered and provided by the Physical Oceanography group of the Laboratory of Engineering and Coastal Processes (https:
