Adduction Contracture of the Thumb

New England Journal of Medicine, 1956
ADDUCTION contracture of the thumb presents a most serious disability of the hand. The thumb is useless as an opponent for the fingers, is unable to abduct and rotate and, in some cases, blocks flexion of the fingers. The hand is incapable of proper grasp, pinch and stereognosis. The proper mechanics of position of the thumb are crippled.

Heterogeneity in adducted thumbs sequence

American Journal of Medical Genetics, 1997
We report on a boy with adducted thumbs, microcephaly, swallowing difficulties, hypotonia, and severe mental retardation, but without craniostenosis or arthrogryposis. An MRI scan showed myelinization according to age and mild ventricular enlargement.

Redox reactions of hydrogen adducts of thymine: Comparisons with the reactions of hydroxyl adducts

Talanta, 1995
Hydrogen atoms form two kinds of adducts with thymine (oxidizing and reducing). Redox reactions of these two kinds, popularly known as 5-hydrogenated-6-thyminyl (reducing) and 6-hydrogenated-5-thyminyl (oxidizing), were investigated where ferric ions (oxidizing) and ferrous ions (reducing) were used as the corresponding redox partners.

Acetaldehyde Adducts of Phospholipids

Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research, 1982
Incubation of rat liver microsomes with acetaldehyde followed by reduction with borohydride of the Schiff bases formed leads to the formation of the N‐ethyl derivatives of phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylserine. Proof for this structure came from a comparison of these microsomal derivatives, and the nitrogenous bases derived therefrom by acid

Thiol-quinone adduct formation in myofibrillar proteins detected by LC-MS.

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2011
Protein oxidation in meat is considered to decrease meat tenderness due to protein disulfide cross-link formation of thiol-containing amino acid residues.

Adduction of catechol estrogens to nucleosides

Steroids, 2002
We report the formation, detection, quantitation and structural characterization of products resulting from the adduction of deoxynucleosides (deoxyadenosine, deoxyguanosine, deoxycytidine and 5-methyldeoxycytidine) to the catechol estrogens (CE) of estrone, estradiol-17beta and estradiol-17 alpha. The crude products are obtained in a one-pot synthesis

A Persistent 1,2‐Dihydrophosphasilene Adduct

Angewandte Chemie International Edition, 2015
AbstractThe reaction of the arylchlorosilylene–NHC adduct ArSi(NHC)Cl [Ar=2,6‐Trip2‐C6H3; NHC=(MeC)2(NMe)2C] 1 with one molar equiv of LiPH2.dme (dme=1,2‐dimethoxyethane) affords the first 1,2‐dihydrophosphasilene adduct 2 (ArSi(NHC)(H)PH). The latter is labile in solution and can undergo head‐to‐tail dimerization to give [ArSi(H)PH]2 3 and “free” NHC.

Multifunctional Poly(ϵ‐caprolactone)‐Forming Networks by Diels–Alder Cycloaddition: Effect of the Adduct on the Shape‐Memory Properties

, 2012
Star-shaped poly(ϵ-caprolactone)s are functionalized by various dienes (furan and anthracene) and a dienophile (maleimide), and the kinetics of network formation by melt-blending is compared for both Diels–Alder adducts.

Endogenous Glutathione Adducts

Current Drug Metabolism, 2006
This review provides an overview of the formation, pharmacology, and toxicology of endogenous glutathione (GSH)-adducts with particular emphasis on GSH-adducts that arise from lipid peroxidation. GSH is the major low-molecular-weight thiol in mammalian cells.

New evidence for toxicity of polybrominated diphenyl ethers: DNA adduct formation from quinone metabolites.

Environmental Science and Technology, 2011
This study investigated the formation of DNA adducts of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and the possible mechanisms. DNA adduction was conducted by in vitro reaction of deoxyguanosine (dG) and DNA with PBDE-quinone (PBDE-Q) metabolites, and DNA ...
