Effect of High-Fat Diet on Cardiac Metabolites and Implications for Vulnerability to Ischemia and Reperfusion Injury

open access: yesCells
Previous work has shown that mouse models fed a non-obesogenic high-fat diet have preserved cardiac function and no obesity-associated comorbidities such as diabetes.

CBS domains form energy-sensing modules whose binding of adenosine ligands is disrupted by disease mutations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
CBS domains are defined as sequence motifs that occur in several different proteins in all kingdoms of life. Although thought to be regulatory, their exact functions have been unknown.

Modeling hepatic fibrosis in TP53 knockout iPSC‐derived human liver organoids

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study developed iPSC‐derived human liver organoids with TP53 gene knockout to model human liver fibrosis. These organoids showed elevated myofibroblast activation, early disease markers, and advanced fibrotic hallmarks. The use of profibrotic differentiation medium further amplified the fibrotic signature seen in the organoids.

Mitochondrial ATP transporter depletion protects mice against liver steatosis and insulin resistance

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
Adenine nucleotide translocase (ANT) 2 promotes ADP/ATP exchange across the mitochondrial inner membrane. Choet al. show that liver specific Ant2 deletion increases uncoupled respiration and protects mice against fatty liver and obesity-induced insulin ...

Regulation of Ecto-5´-Nucleotidase by Docosahexaenoic Acid in Human Endothelial Cells

open access: yesCellular Physiology and Biochemistry, 2013
Background/Aims: Modulation of extracellular adenine nucleotide and adenosine concentrations is one potential mechanism by which docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) may exert beneficial effects in critically ill patients.

Hidden Pool of Cardiac Adenine Nucleotides That Controls Adenosine Production

open access: yesPharmaceuticals, 2023
Myocardial ischemic adenosine production decreases in subsequent events that may blunt its protective functions. To test the relation between total or mitochondrial cardiac adenine nucleotide pool (TAN) on the energy status with adenosine production ...

Regulation of bistability in the std fimbrial operon of Salmonella enterica by DNA adenine methylation and transcription factors HdfR, StdE and StdF [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Bistable expression of the Salmonella enterica std operon is controlled by an AND logic gate involving three transcriptional activators: the LysR-type factor HdfR and the StdE and StdF regulators encoded by the std operon itself.

Molecular characterisation of human penile carcinoma and generation of paired epithelial primary cell lines

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Generation of two normal and tumour (cancerous) paired human cell lines using an established tissue culture technique and their characterisation is described. Cell lines were characterised at cellular, protein, chromosome and gene expression levels and for HPV status.

Acyclic nucleoside phosphonates with adenine nucleobase inhibit Trypanosoma brucei adenine phosphoribosyltransferase in vitro

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
All medically important unicellular protozoans cannot synthesize purines de novo and they entirely rely on the purine salvage pathway (PSP) for their nucleotide generation.

Nucleotide Frequencies in Human Genome and Fibonacci Numbers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This work presents a mathematical model that establishes an interesting connection between nucleotide frequencies in human single-stranded DNA and the famous Fibonacci's numbers. The model relies on two assumptions.
