Effects of Nicotine and THC Vapor Inhalation Administered by An Electronic Nicotine Delivery System (ENDS) in Male Rats

open access: yesbioRxiv, 2018
Electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS, e-cigarettes) are increasingly used for the self-administration of nicotine by various human populations, including previously nonsmoking adolescents.

Mechanically Tunable Bone Scaffolds: In Vivo Hardening of 3D‐Printed Calcium Phosphate/Polycaprolactone Inks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D bone scaffold with osteogenic properties and capable of hardening in vivo is developed. The scaffold is implanted in a ductile state, and a phase transformation of the ceramic induces the stiffening and strengthening of the scaffold in vivo. Abstract Calcium phosphate 3D printing has revolutionized customized bone grafting.

Budesonide inhalation suspension versus methylprednisolone for treatment of moderate bronchial asthma attacks

open access: yesWorld Allergy Organization Journal, 2015
Background Owing to their side effects, administration of steroids for bronchial asthma attacks should be minimized. We investigated whether budesonide inhalation suspension (BIS) could replace intravenous steroid administration for the treatment of ...

Lipid peroxidation and antioxidant enzyme activities in the rat testis after cigarette smoke inhalation or administration of polychlorinated biphenyls or polychlorinated naphthalenes.

open access: yesJournal of Andrology, 1994
Lipid peroxidation products and antioxidant enzyme activities were studied in the rat testis following exposures to cigarette smoke, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), or polychlorinated naphthalenes (PCNs).

Next‐Generation Bio‐Reducible Lipids Enable Enhanced Vaccine Efficacy in Malaria and Primate Models

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Structure–activity relationship (SAR) optimization of bio‐reducible ionizable lipids enables the development of highly effective lipid nanoparticle (LNP) mRNA vaccines. Lead LNPs show superior tolerability and antibody responses in rodents and primates, outperforming approved COVID‐19 vaccine lipids.

Enzyme‐Regulated Extended Swelling of Hydrogels for Dehiscence‐Less Tissue Expansions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An interpenetrating hydrogel network with swelling under regulation by enzymatic degradation (INSURED) is fabricated to avoid dehiscence. INSURED remains structurally intact post‐implantation, while HYAL injection enables control over the onset and rate of swelling.

Functional Materials for Environmental Energy Harvesting in Smart Agriculture via Triboelectric Nanogenerators

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review explores functional and responsive materials for triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) in sustainable smart agriculture. It examines how particulate contamination and dirt affect charge transfer and efficiency. Environmental challenges and strategies to enhance durability and responsiveness are outlined, including active functional layers ...

4D Mapping of ZIF Biocomposites for High Protein Loading and Tunable Release Profiles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Systematic four‐dimensional mapping of zeolitic imidazolate framework biocomposites reveals how precursor ratios, total concentration, and washing define crystalline phase, protein loading, and release kinetics. This comprehensive study identifies conditions yielding record loading (∼85%) and precise phase–property correlations.
