Crossing subfamily borders: Mechanosensitive TREK‐1 and alkaline‐activated TASK‐4 form heterodimers with unique functional and pharmacological properties

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Background and Purpose The tandem of two‐pore‐domain potassium (K2P) channels TREK‐1 and TASK‐4 are expressed in the heart and pancreatic beta‐cells. As TREK‐1 and TASK‐4 belong to distinct subfamilies with different functional hallmarks, heteromerization of these two channels was highly unexpected.

Structural basis of beta-adrenergic receptor subtype specificity studied with chimeric beta 1/beta 2-adrenergic receptors.

open access: yes, 1988
The beta 1- and beta 2-adrenergic receptors are two structurally related, but pharmacologically distinguishable, receptor subtypes, both of which activate adenylyl cyclase in a catecholamine-dependent manner through the guanine nucleotide-binding ...

Psychological Stress Promotes Tumor Growth in Hepatocellular Carcinoma Models Through Myeloid Signaling

open access: yesCancer Science, EarlyView.
Psychological stress promotes hepatocellular carcinoma progression through coordinated regulation of macrophages and neutrophils. Noradrenaline activates ADRB2 signaling in intratumoral macrophages, leading to CXCL2 production and neutrophil recruitment.

The Effect of a Reduced-Calorie Diet on alpha-2 Adrenergic Receptor Responsiveness in Abdominal Adipose Tissue in Obese Men During Exercise [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
There is at present an imperfect understanding of the effect of diet on availability of inhibitory receptors in fat cells during exercise among obese men. *Objective:* The purpose of this study was to determine whether diet results in

Current Approaches to Support Patients to Withdraw From Image and Performance Enhancing Drugs

open access: yesClinical Endocrinology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Image and performance‐enhancing drugs (IPEDs) include agents such as androgens, growth hormone, and erythropoietin, which are used to enhance appearance and physical performance. Androgens, also known as anabolic‐androgenic steroids (AAS), are the most used IPEDs worldwide.

Iloperidone treatment mitigates the Juvenile Huntington's Disease phenotype possibly via Sigma‐1 Receptor Modulation

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
We investigated the potential of iloperidone as an activator of Sigma‐1 receptor (S1R) neuroprotective function in juvenile Huntington's disease (jHD). We tested iloperidone on cortical neurons differentiated from patient‐derived iPSCs, demonstrating that it acts as a S1R agonist, decreasing apoptosis, huntingtin aggregation, and oxidative stress ...

Structural and functional insights into rhodopsin‐like and secretin‐like GPCR–arrestin interactions and regulation

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Distinct GPCR phosphorylation barcodes and arrestin conformational states direct arrestin‐mediated signaling and trafficking. The graphical abstract depicts the structural diversity of GPCR–arrestin complexes by overlaying representative core‐engaged and tail‐engaged conformations.

Effects of partial agonists on beta-adrenergic receptors

open access: yes, 1993
A useful approach for investigating the mechanism by which B-adrenergic receptors function as biochemical transducers has been to compare the interactions of partial or atypical agonists with full agonists using cell lines that express $\beta$-adrenergic

The Interactions Between Acetylcholine and T‐Cells and Their Role in the Immune System: A Scoping Review

open access: yesImmunology, EarlyView.
Activated T‐cells instigate signalling events leading to the activation of transcription factors, which in turn, act on the nucleus to produce cytokines. We postulate that c‐fos is one of these transcription factors which upregulates the choline acetyltransferase gene responsible for synthesising acetylcholine (ACh).
