Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Clinical safety issues of measles, mumps and rubella vaccines

open access: yesBulletin of the World Health Organization, 2000
The clinical safety of measles and measles-mumps-rubella vaccines has been questioned in recent reports that propose a possible link between measles virus or measles vaccines and the occurrence of juvenile Crohn disease and autism.

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

Skin reactions probably attributed to the use of phenytoin and vancomycin [PDF]

open access: yesEinstein (São Paulo), 2008
Cutaneous reactions are the most common adverse events attributed to medications. Stevens-Johnson syndrome or erythema multiforme is a severe and acute reaction determined by medications, especially aspirin, phenytoin, and vancomycin.

Cannabidiol Adverse Effects and Toxicity

open access: yesCurrent Neuropharmacology, 2019
Background: Currently, there is a great interest in the potential medical use of cannabidiol (CBD), a non-intoxicating cannabinoid. Productive pharmacological research on CBD occurred in the 1970s and intensified recently with many discoveries about the ...

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Ever-Present Adverse Effects [PDF]

open access: yesCNS Spectrums, 2004
With our emphasis on treatment-refractory depression, one cannot help but think about recent media coverage and regulatory events surrounding antide-pressant therapy. The current debate about the safety of antidepressant therapy for children and adolescents stands out in particular.Recently, a pediatrician attending a symposium at the University of ...
