Silage inoculants, while the most common type of silage additive, have not been effective at improving aerobic stability. This study investigated new and proposed inoculant products over three years on corn silage in mini-silos.

Localization and stability of hydrogenases from aerobic hydrogen bacteria
Archives of Microbiology, 1977Alcaligenes eutrophus strains H 16, B 19, G 27 and N9A contained two different hydrogenases. One enzyme catalyzed the reduction of NAD by hydrogen and was strictly localized in the soluble cell fraction. While the second enzyme was found to be particulate and unable to react with NAD.

Enhanced storage stability of aerobic granules seeded with pellets
Bioresource Technology, 2010The responses of two different types of aerobic granules to storage, granule A seeded with activated sludge flocs and granule B seeded with pellets (cells), were investigated in this study. After 3-week storage, the surface of granule B remained compact and smooth while obvious crevices were observed on that of granule A.

Laboratory studies of aerobic stabilization of swine waste
Journal of Agricultural Engineering Research, 1966Pig waste was allowed to accumulate in a pit beneath a slatted-floor swine finishing building for one week or one month. Samples of this waste were brought to the laboratory for analysis and aerobic stabilization. It was concluded that adding the raw waste continuously to the aeration unit gave the best results.
