Aerodynamic Benchmarking of the Deepwind Design [PDF]

open access: yesEnergy Procedia, 2015
AbstractThe aerodynamic benchmarking for the DeepWind rotor is conducted comparing different rotor geometries and solutions and keeping the comparison as fair as possible. The objective for the benchmarking is to find the most suitable configuration in order to maximize the power production and minimize the blade solicitation and the cost of energy ...

Short-duration, transonic flow, variable-porosity test section [PDF]

open access: yes, 1970
Short-duration test facility obtains extremely high Reynolds number flows in subsonic, transonic, and supersonic speed ranges, and aids in solving Reynolds number-dependent aerodynamic and thermodynamic problems in design and testing of large, high speed

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

Mechanisms of parasite‐mediated disruption of brain vessels

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Parasites can affect the blood vessels of the brain, often causing serious neurological problems. This review explains how different parasites interact with and disrupt these vessels, what this means for brain health, and why these processes matter. Understanding these mechanisms may help us develop better ways to prevent or treat brain infections in ...

Multiple ETS family transcription factors bind mutant p53 via distinct interaction regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mutant p53 gain‐of‐function is thought to be mediated by interaction with other transcription factors. We identify multiple ETS transcription factors that can bind mutant p53 and found that this interaction can be promoted by a PXXPP motif. ETS proteins that strongly bound mutant p53 were upregulated in ovarian cancer compared to ETS proteins that ...

Surrogate-Based Aerodynamic Design Optimization: Use of Surrogates in Aerodynamic Design Optimization [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Conference on Aerospace Sciences and Aviation Technology, 2009
The role of optimization in various practical applications has been increasing over the years. In the field of aerodynamics, design optimization is rapidly evolving in many ways. One of the latest developments in this field is the introduction of surrogates or metamodels.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Optimal design of wind turbine blades equipped with flaps [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
As a result of the significant growth of wind turbines in size, blade load control has become the main challenge for large wind turbines. Many advanced techniques have been investigated aiming at developing control devices to ease blade loading.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Enhancement of thrust reverser cascade performance using aerodynamic and structural integration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
This paper focuses on the design of a cascade within a cold stream thrust reverser during the early, conceptual stage of the product development process.
