Mathematical Modeling and Simulation of Aquatic and Aerial Animal Locomotion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
In this thesis we investigate the locomotion of fish and birds by applying both new and well known mathematical techniques. The two-dimensional model is first studied using Krasny's vortex blob method, and then a new numerical method based on Wu's ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Aerodynamic characterization of bio-mimicked pleated dragonfly aerofoil

open access: yesInternational Journal of Aviation, Aeronautics, and Aerospace, 2021
The work inspired by the dragonfly wing corrugation positioned at the front wing's radius section lying at 40% of the total wingspan of forewing from the root section.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

The Effect of Room Turbulence on the Efficiency of Air Cleaning Devices

open access: yesAtmosphere
Mobile air cleaners have emerged as a practical solution for reducing indoor aerosol concentrations, particularly in the absence of HVAC systems. Their efficiency is typically assessed under standardised conditions, but how turbulence influences the ...

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.

Numerical and Experimental Investigations of an Elasto-Flexible Membrane Wing at a Reynolds Number of 280,000

open access: yesAerospace, 2017
This work presents numerical and experimental investigations of an elasto-flexible membrane wing at a Reynolds number of 280,000. Such a concept has the capacity to adapt itself to the incoming flow offering a wider range of the flight envelope.
