Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

A Toolbox for Cryptanalysis: Linear and Affine Equivalence Algorithms

open access: yes, 2003
This paper presents two algorithms for solving the linear and the affine equivalence problem for arbitrary permutations (S-boxes). For a pair of n × n-bit permutations the complexity of the linear equivalence algorithm (LE) is O(n 3 2 n).

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified

Local sequence alignments statistics: deviations from Gumbel statistics in the rare-event tail

open access: yesAlgorithms for Molecular Biology, 2007
Background The optimal score for ungapped local alignments of infinitely long random sequences is known to follow a Gumbel extreme value distribution. Less is known about the important case, where gaps are allowed. For this case, the distribution is only

Energy Elasticities and the Rebound Effect: A Comprehensive Empirical Analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016

On a class of infinite words with affine factor complexity

open access: yes, 2007
In this article, we consider the fixed point of a primitive substitution canonically defined by a β-numeration system. The problem of determination of the factor complexity of such an infinite word has been solved only partially.

Aplikasi Pembelajaran Algoritma Affine Cipher Dan Vigenere Cipher Menggunakan Metode Computer Assisted Instruction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Learning is a process of communication between teachers and students. Cryptographic learning is very important for computer students to know the ways to secure data. Then learning is needed about data security, namely using cryptographic methods with the
