Effects of licorice extract, probiotic, toxin binder and poultry litter biochar on performance, immune function, blood indices and liver histopathology of broilers exposed to aflatoxin-B1

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2020
Probiotics, toxin binders, and plant extracts improve health and immunity of broiler chickens exposed to aflatoxin. The effects of licorice extract (LE), Protexin probiotic, toxin binder (Agrabound), and poultry litter biochar (PLB) in experimental ...

Progression of Aflatoxicosis in Broiler Chickens

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1986
The progression of aflatoxicosis was evaluated in young broiler chickens (Hubbard X Hubbard). The experimental design consisted of four dietary treatments of aflatoxin (0, 1.25, 2.5, and 5.0 micrograms of aflatoxin/g of feed, ppm) and 11 replicates of 10 broilers/replicate.

Aflatoxin Contamination in Agri‐Food Systems: A Comprehensive Review of Toxicity, Food Security, Economic Impacts, and Sustainable Mitigation Across the Value Chain

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 13, Issue 10, October 2025.
Toxic and carcinogenic aflatoxins from Aspergillus contaminate global staple crops, threatening food security, public health, and causing $6–18B in annual economic losses. Climate change, poor agricultural and post‐harvest practices, and socioeconomic constraints intensify aflatoxin contamination risks. Sustainable mitigation strategies from biocontrol

Coexistence of Aflatoxicosis with Protein Malnutrition Worsens Hepatic Oxidative Damage in Rats

open access: yes, 2016
To investigate the effects of the coexistence of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) and protein malnutrition in rat liver, weanling rats were fed either normal protein diet (20% protein), low-protein (PEM) diet (5%), normal protein diet + 40 ppb AFB1, or low-protein ...

Primary hepatic haemangiosarcoma in a pet rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus)

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, Volume 13, Issue 3, September 2025.
Abstract An 8‐year‐old, entire, female rabbit was presented in decompensated shock. Blood tests revealed a mild, highly regenerative anaemia (haemocrit: 24.6%; reticulocytes: 15.7%) and a significant elevation of alanine transaminase (183 IU/L). The radiographic examination showed widespread mineralisation of the entire abdominal cavity and a mass ...

Aflatoxin B1 in Affecting Broiler’s Performance, Immunity, and Gastrointestinal Tract: A Review of History and Contemporary Issues

open access: yesToxins, 2011
Aflatoxin B1 is a common contaminant of poultry feeds in tropical and subtropical climates. Research during the last five decades has well established the negative effects of the mycotoxin on health of poultry.

Protective Effects of Propolis Supplementation on Aflatoxin B1‐Induced Oxidative Stress, Antioxidant Status, Intestinal Barrier Damage, and Gut Microbiota in Rats

open access: yesMolecular Nutrition &Food Research, Volume 69, Issue 10, May 2025.
In rats exposed to aflatoxin B1 (AFB1), propolis supplementation may alleviate oxidative stress by exhibiting antioxidant effects and restore intestinal permeability impaired by AFB1 by ameliorating intestinal barrier damage. Furthermore, propolis supplementation may contribute to the modulation of the gut microbiota by preventing a decrease in the ...
