Residues of aflatoxin B1 in broiler meat: Effect of age and dietary aflatoxin B1 levels

Food and Chemical Toxicology, 2010
This study describes the effect of dietary levels of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) and age of the birds upon the residue level in liver and muscles of broiler chicks. In three different experiments broiler chicks of 7, 14 and 28 days of age were kept for 7 days on contaminated rations having 1600, 3200 and 6400 μg/kg AFB1.

Fluorescence changes of aflatoxins B1 and G1

Zeitschrift für Lebensmittel-Untersuchung und -Forschung, 1975
The effects of various factors, such as pH, buffer, sodiumchloride and ultra-violet radiation on the fluorescence of aflatoxins B1 and G1 have been studied. The fluorescence characteristics of aflatoxins B1 and G1 underwent a marked change at pH values above 7.2.

In vitro aflatoxin B1-induced p53 mutations

Cancer Letters, 2003
The tumor suppressor gene p53 is commonly mutated with high frequencies at certain hot spots in human cancers. In liver cancers there is an especially high frequency of mutations at codon 249. To study the impact of carcinogen targeting and the role of cytosine methylation on the mutation spectrum, a common liver cancer carcinogen aflatoxin B1 (AFB1 ...

Aflatoxin B1 in hepatocellular carcinoma.

Tropical and geographical medicine, 1981
The aflatoxin B1 content of liver tissue was measured in patients who died from chronic liver disease [hepatocellular carcinoma (HCG) (5), schistosomal liver fibrosis (1), chronic aggressive hepatitis (1)] and compared with fifteen controls who died of motor traffic accidents (10), drowning (1), malnutrition (1), idiopathic cardiomegaly (1) and lung ...

Mutagenic effect of aflatoxin B1.

Annales de la nutrition et de l'alimentation, 1978
The present work aimed to study the mutagenic effect of aflatoxin B1 on human chromosomes. The experiments showed that aflatoxin B1 is a strong chromosome damaging agent. The treated cells showed a high rate of aberrations mainly breaks and interchanges.

Activated charcoal adsorbs aflatoxin B1.

Veterinary and human toxicology, 1981
Activated charcoal was demonstrated to adsorb aflatoxin B1 in an efficient manner in vitro at a neutral pH. One mg aflatoxin was adsorbed by 100mg activated charcoal. The complex appeared to be quite stable. Destruction of the aflatoxin by alkaline conditions was confirmed, and a large measure of destruction was also noted at acid pH.
