A sodium iodate (NaIO3)‐induced geographic atrophy (GA) model in pigmented rats was established using in vivo and histological analyses. Morphological, ultrastructural changes, complement and inflammatory processes were evaluated at pre‐dose and 3, 7, and 14 days post‐NaIO3 injection.
