A case involving a bovine aortic arch contributing to blunt thoracic aortic injury of triple rupture close to the pericardial reflection

open access: yesTrauma Case Reports
A blunt thoracic aortic injury is a fatal condition that often requires emergency surgery. Although injuries to the aortic isthmus are common in trauma patients, the proximal aortic arch often remains intact.

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

A comparison of measured height and demi-span equivalent height in the assessment of body mass index among people aged 65 years and over in England

open access: yes, 2008
Objectives: to examine differences between measured height and demi-span equivalent height (DEH) among people aged >= 65 and investigate the impact on body mass index (BMI) of using DEH.Design and Setting: nationally representative cross-sectional sample

Transition care for older people leaving hospital: 2005-06 to 2012-13 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Examines the outcomes for the 87,000 people who received care under the Transition Care Program from 2005–06 to 2012–13. Summary For many older people, a hospital stay can be accompanied by a decline in functioning.

Prognostic value of short-term decline of forced expiratory volume in 1 s over height cubed (FEV1/Ht(3)) in a cohort of adults aged 80 and over.

open access: yes, 2017
Forced expiratory volume in 1 s over height cubed (FEV1/Ht(3)) is an FEV1 expression that uses no reference values and is independently associated with adverse outcomes in older adults. No studies have reported on the prognostic value of its decline over

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Relationship between resting heart rate and anthropometric, metabolic and hemodynamic parameters in the elderly aged 80 years and over

open access: yes, 2016
This study examined the relationship between resting heart rate (RHRr) and anthropometric, metabolic and hemodynamic parameters in subjects aged 80 years and over. One hundred thirteen individuals were divided into two groups (RHR:

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...
