Identifying Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans periodontal antigens by immunoscreening.

open access: yes, 2012
Periodontitis is a chronic, destructive inflammatory disease of the supporting tissues of the teeth with a high prevalence among adults. While the complete pathogenesis of periodontitis remains unclear, it is initiated and sustained by dental plaque ...

Oral Phageome as Potential Modulators of Periodontal Dysbiosis. A Systematic Review

open access: yesOral Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction The oral phageome, comprising bacteriophages inhabiting the oral cavity, has been proposed as a potential modulator of periodontal health and disease. This systematic review synthesizes current evidence on interactions between bacteriophages, key periodontal bacteria, and the host in periodontitis.

Proteomics of Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans Outer Membrane Vesicles

open access: yesPLOS ONE, 2015
Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans is an oral and systemic pathogen associated with aggressive forms of periodontitis and with endocarditis. Outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) released by this species have been demonstrated to deliver effector proteins such as cytolethal distending toxin (CDT) and leukotoxin (LtxA) into human host cells and to act as ...

Porphyromonas gingivalis GroEL exacerbates orthotopic allograft transplantation vasculopathy via impairment of endothelial cell function

open access: yesMolecular Oral Microbiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Orthotopic allograft transplantation (OAT) is a significant approach to addressing organ failure. However, persistent immune responses to the allograft affect chronic rejection, which induces OAT vasculopathy (OATV) and organ failure. Porphyromonas gingivalis can infiltrate remote organs via the bloodstream, thereby intensifying the severity ...

Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans en enfermedad periodontal crónica

open access: yes, 2012
La enfermedad periodontal se asocia a un grupo de microorganismos denominados periodontopatógenos por los factores de virulencia que los caracterizan, entre ellos enzimas, toxinas y elementos estructurales que agreden los tejidos periodontales del ...

Designing Polymerase Chain Reaction for Molecular Diagnostics of the Primary Bacterial Cause of Periodontitis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Biomedical Sciences, 2020
Background & Objective: Periodontal disease, which can become a chronic condition, is an inflammatory disease that upsets the soft and hard structures supporting the teeth. The aim of the present study was to design and develop an in-house PCR Method, to

The ComEA/ComEC Operon is Critical for Nitrosative Stress Tolerance by an Oral Commensal

open access: yesMolecular Oral Microbiology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Oral commensal streptococci play a large role in mediating microbial homeostasis. Our prior work has demonstrated that hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) produced by oral commensal streptococci can react with salivary nitrite (NO2) and generate peroxynitrite (ONOO−), a potent antimicrobial.

Antibacterial Activity, Antiadherence Activity, Antioxidant Activity, and Molecular Docking Analysis of Arab Rose (Rosa Damascena) Extract on Periodontopathic Bacteria: Porphyromonas Gingivalis and Aggregatibacter Actinomycetemcomitans - An In vitro Study

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy and Bioallied Sciences
Introduction: Rosa damascena extracts were prepared, and their antibacterial and antibiofilm assays were investigated against two different periodontopathic bacteria (Porphyromonas gingivalis and Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans).

Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans adhesion inhibited in a flow cell

open access: yesOral Microbiology and Immunology, 2008
Introduction:  Microbial interactions are considered important in the adhesion process of pathogenic bacteria in the oral cavity. This study addressed the hypothesis that a streptococcal biofilm influences the hard tissue colonization by the periodontopathogen Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans under hydrodynamic conditions. Methods:  The ...

Role of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) and systemic resveratrol on immediate implant placement in type 2 diabetic rats

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
This study evaluated the combined effects of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) and systemic resveratrol on bone repair around immediately placed implants in type 2 diabetic rats. Resveratrol improved glycemic control and body weight, while aPDT increased implant stability and bone mineralization.
