Comparison of the detection of periodontal pathogens in bacteraemia after tooth brushing by culture and molecular techniques [PDF]
Background: The prevalence and amounts of periodontal pathogens detected in bacteraemia samples after tooth brushing-induced by means of four diagnostic technique, three based on culture and one in a molecular-based technique, have been compared in ...

Antibiotic susceptibility of Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans JP2 in a biofilm
Localized aggressive periodontitis (LAgP) is an inflammatory disease associated with specific bacteria, particularly Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans, which can result in early tooth loss. The bacteria grow as a biofilm known as subgingival plaque. Treatment includes mechanical debridement of the biofilm, often associated with empirical antibiotic

This study evaluated the combined effects of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) and systemic resveratrol on bone repair around immediately placed implants in type 2 diabetic rats. Resveratrol improved glycemic control and body weight, while aPDT increased implant stability and bone mineralization.

Peri-implantitis : associated microbiota and treatment [PDF]
Introduction: Peri-implantitis is a late complication of dental implant treatment, induced by microbiological changes. Since the disorder is frequent, a review is indicated of the microorganisms that influence it and of the existing treatment options ...

Osteomyelitis of the mandible due to Aggregatibacter (Actinobacillus) actinomycetemcomitans
Aggregatibacter (Actinobacillus) actinomycetemcomitans is a capnoic gram negative coccobacilli known to produce juvenile periodontitis. This organism was isolated in pure culture from an unusual case of osteomyelitis of the mandible. The patient was treated with tetracycline, which is the drug of choice for A.

Identification of a glutathione transporter in A. actinomycetemcomitans
Bacteria rely on extracellular chemical cues to sense their environment, interact with one another, and shape their chemical landscape. Understanding this biochemistry can help us elucidate the mechanisms by which bacterial interactions impact community ...

Leukotoxic Activity of Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans and Periodontal Attachment Loss
Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans is a Gram-negative periodontitis-associated bacterium that expresses a toxin that selectively affects leukocytes. This leukotoxin is encoded by an operon belonging to the core genome of this bacterial species. Variations in the expression of the leukotoxin have been reported, and a well-characterized specific ...

Effect of ozone on periodontopathogenic species—an in vitro study [PDF]
The in vitro study was aimed to determine the effect of ozone on periodontopathogenic microorganisms. Ozone was generated for 6s-2 × 24s (corresponding to 0.56mg-2 × 2.24mg of ozone) against 23 mainly anaerobic periodontopathogenic species.
