Towards the Creation of a Nutrition and Food Group Based Image Database [PDF]
Food classification is critical to the analysis of nutrients comprising foods reported in dietary assessment. Advances in mobile and wearable sensors, combined with new image based methods, particularly deep learning based approaches, have shown great promise to improve the accuracy of food classification to assess dietary intake.

Effects of chronic browsing on life‐history traits of an irruptive large herbivore population
This study aimed to determine the relationship between diet quality, body mass, and size (hind foot length), and female reproduction and sought to identify the mechanism by which high density under severe food limitations is maintained. Our results demonstrated that sika deer introduced to Nakanoshima Island have maintained high densities through high ...

Agricultural Economics and Innovation in the Inca Empire [PDF]
By studying the Inca Empire's agricultural accomplishments, we learn how ancient civilizations adapted to their circumstances, used natural resources effectively, and sustained agriculture for millennia. This understanding affects global food production systems as we face land degradation, climate change, and sustainable farming.

Human colon organoid differentiation from induced pluripotent stem cells using an improved method
We compared established protocols to differentiate induced pluripotent stem cells into colon organoids and found that activation of bone morphogenetic protein 2 signaling induced gene expression of colon‐specific markers. Adenovirus‐mediated transduction of the transcription factors HOXD13 or SATB2 further enhanced colonic gene expression, suggesting ...

A novel illumination condition varied image dataset-Food Vision Dataset (FVD) for fair and reliable consumer acceptability predictions from food [PDF]
Recent advances in artificial intelligence promote a wide range of computer vision applications in many different domains. Digital cameras, acting as human eyes, can perceive fundamental object properties, such as shapes and colors, and can be further used for conducting high-level tasks, such as image classification, and object detections.

Identification of inhibitors of the Salmonella FraB deglycase, a drug target
A high‐throughput screen was used to identify inhibitors of Salmonella FraB, a drug target. Characterization of top hits (identified after an additional counter screen) revealed that some triazolidines, thiadiazolidines, and triazolothiadiazoles are mixed‐type inhibitors of FraB.
