Middle ear ossicles motion at hearing thresholds with air conduction and bone conduction stimulation

open access: yes, 2006
Hearing threshold data with bone conduction and air conduction stimulation are combined with physiological and mechanical measurements of the middle ear ossicles vibration to compute the vibration level of the ossicles at threshold stimulation.

Hyperactive ice‐binding proteins stabilize cell membranes and improve resistance to dehydration stress in Caenorhabditis elegans

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
TisIBP8, a fungal‐derived hyperactive ice‐binding protein, helps Caenorhabditis elegans survive dehydration. It localizes near cell membranes, reduces cell damage, and helps maintain membrane structure during drying. These results suggest that ice‐binding proteins can protect cells from dehydration stress as well as freezing stress.

Effect of Displacement Current on the Finite-Difference Modeling of Natural Source Electromagnetic Diffusion

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
For electromagnetic (EM) modeling based on the electric-field formulation at low frequencies, the quasi-static approximation (i.e., only the conduction current is considered and the displacement current is ignored) is commonly applied, and a small ...

Risk Prediction Models for Recurrence After Curative Treatment of Early‐Stage or Locally Advanced Lung Cancer: A Systematic Review

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
This systematic review synthesizes prognostic models for survival and recurrence in resected non‐small cell lung cancer. While many models demonstrate moderate to good discrimination, few are externally validated and reporting quality is variable, limiting clinical applicability and highlighting the need for robust, transparent model development ...

Value of MRI Outcomes for Preventive and Early‐Stage Trials in Spinocerebellar Ataxias 1 and 3

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To examine the value of MRI outcomes as endpoints for preventive and early‐stage trials of two polyglutamine spinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs). Methods A cohort of 100 participants (23 SCA1, 63 SCA3, median Scale for the Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA) score = 5, 42% preataxic, and 14 gene‐negative controls) was scanned at 3T up ...

Effectiveness of stapedotomy in improving hearing sensitivity for 53 otosclerotic patients: retrospective review

open access: yesAnnals of Saudi Medicine, 2017
BACKGROUND: Otosclerosis is a common cause of progressive hearing impairment that causes fixation of the stapes. Surgical intervention is the preferred treatment approach to ameliorate the conductive hearing loss associated with stapedial otosclerosis ...

Air Pollution and the Risk and Progression of Multiple Sclerosis: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose Air pollution has been linked to several neurological conditions, including stroke and neurodegenerative diseases. Evidence regarding its association with multiple sclerosis (MS) remains conflicting, limited by small sample sizes. Methods PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Cochrane controlled register of trials (CENTRAL) were searched on ...

Binaural hearing with bone conduction stimulation

open access: yes, 2014
It has been argued that apparent masking-level differences (MLDs) in users of bilateral bone-anchored hearing aids (BAHAs) provide evidence of binaural hearing.
