Air Gaps for Electrical Interconnections
Electrochemical and Solid-State Letters, 1999The fabrication of air-gap structures for electrical interconnections has been demonstrated using a sacrificial polymer encapsulated in conventional dielectric materials. The air-gap is formed by thermally decomposing the sacrificial polymer and allowing the byproducts to diffuse through the encapsulating dielectric.

An ammonia-sensing air gap microelectrode
Analytical Biochemistry, 1988An ammonia-sensing air gap microelectrode has been designed on the basis of a neutral carrier pH-sensing inner electrode. This electrode has a tip diameter of 2 to 5 microns, has a simple design, is easy to fabricate, and has a long shelf life. Its response to ammonium is linear in the range 3 x 10(-5) to 10(-2) M and its response time (95%) is 10 to ...

A security measure which involves isolation of a computer or a network in order to prevent it from establishing an external connection, such a security measure is called air gapping. If we are able to physically segregate a computer in such a way that it becomes incapable of connecting wirelessly or physically with other computers network or devices ...

Air-gap stacked spiral inductor
IEEE Microwave and Guided Wave Letters, 1997In this letter, we propose an air-gap stacked spiral inductor using air-bridge technology. By stacking metal lines, inductor area can be reduced by 25%-5% compared with conventional spiral inductors. The air-gap structure yields low parasitic capacitance, so that the resonance frequency is higher than that of conventional inductor in spite of the ...

Reducing Crosstalk Using Air Gaps
2020Air is having a dielectric constant of unity and is an ideal dielectric medium in ICs. However, there are many problems associated with air gaps in ICs, especially thermal issues. As trapped air gets hotter, the reliability of interconnects can degrade. So, this chapter explains the performance and reliability of CNT/air-gap interconnects.

IEEE Electron Device Letters, 2013
This letter reports for the first time the fabrication and characterization of through-silicon vias (TSVs) using air-gap insulators to enable high-performance 3-D integration. To address the challenge in fabricating extremely high-aspect-ratio air gaps, a CMOS-compatible sacrificial technology based on pyrolysis of poly (propylene carbonate) has been ...

A fresh perspective on covert channels is presented in this work. A new class, air-gap covert channels, is defined as an unintentional communication channel established between systems that are physically and electronically isolated from one another. A specific class of air-gap covert channel is studied in depth, out-of-band covert channels (OOB-CCs ...

Inductances of air gap generators
IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1988Two numerical methods to calculate inductances of electric machines' air gap windings are presented. One of them uses the magnetic energy, and the other utilizes the flux linkages of the windings. The magnetic field computation for both methods is done with a code based on Biot-Savart's law.

Discharge in Long Air Gaps: Modelling and applications presents self-consistent predictive dynamic models of positive and negative discharges in long air gaps. Equivalent models are also derived to predict lightning parameters based on the similarities between long air gap discharges and lightning flashes.
