Validation of Geant4 nuclear reaction models for hadrontherapy and preliminary results with SMF and BLOB [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Reliable nuclear fragmentation models are of utmost importance in hadrontherapy, where Monte Carlo (MC) simulations are used to compute the input parameters of the treatment planning software, to validate the deposited dose calculation, to evaluate the ...

The radiation field in the Gamma Irradiation Facility GIF++ at CERN

open access: yes, 2016
The high-luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) upgrade is setting now a new challenge for particle detector technologies. The increase in luminosity will produce a particle background in the gas-based muon detectors that is ten times higher than under conditions at ...

Impact of Ceiling Suspended Shield Size on Primary Operator Radiation Dose During Coronary Angiography and Intervention

open access: yesJournal of Medical Radiation Sciences, EarlyView.
Reducing radiation exposure to staff performing coronary angiography and intervention is an occupational health and safety priority for hospitals. We demonstrate that a larger lead acrylic shield, with lead rubber pleats on the lower edge will reduce radiation exposure to the cardiologist performing the procedure by approximately 40%. We recommend that

Characterization of Small Dosimeters Used for Measurement of Eye Lens Dose for Medical Staff during Fluoroscopic Examination

open access: yesDiagnostics, 2021
This study aimed to evaluate the property of small dosimeters used for measuring eye lens doses for medical staff during fluoroscopic examination. Dose linearity, energy dependence, and directional dependence of scattered X-rays were evaluated for small ...

Refining imaging parameters for dual‐energy cone‐beam computed tomography in image‐guided radiation therapy

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 27, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract Purpose To develop a dose estimation method for virtual monoenergetic images (VMIs) derived from sequential dual‐energy (DE) cone‐beam computed tomography (CBCT), enhancing image quality while reducing imaging dose. The goal is to generate VMIs with lower imaging dose than standard CBCT for future clinical applications.

Is it possible to reduce radiation exposure during transcatheter atrial septal defect closure in children?

open access: yesTürk Kardiyoloji Derneği Arşivi, 2020
Objective: Cardiac catheterization continues to be a major source of radiation exposure for patients with congenital heart disease. As children are more prone to both deterministic and stochastic effects of radiation, every effort should be made to ...

Development of an optically stimulated luminescence radiometer based on sodium chloride and gold nanoparticles for improving radiation detection in radiography

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 27, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract Purpose To evaluate sodium chloride doped with gold nanoparticles (NaCl + GNPs) as a low‐cost, reusable optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) material for diagnostic radiology, and to benchmark its luminescence performance against the commercial standard, aluminum oxide doped with carbon (Al2O3:C).
