Influence of the public transportation system on the air quality of a major urban center. A case study: Milan, Italy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
A sampling campaign was conducted in the city of Milan, Italy before and during a transportation strike in January 2004. This strike provided a unique opportunity to investigate the influence of public transportation on the air quality in a major ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Distributed Adaptive Optimization Algorithm for High-Order Nonlinear Multi-Agent Stochastic Systems with Lévy Noise

open access: yesEntropy
An adaptive neural network output-feedback control strategy is proposed in this paper for the distributed optimization problem (DOP) of high-order nonlinear stochastic multi-agent systems (MASs) driven by Lévy noise.

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Study on the Complexity Evolution of the Aviation Network in China

open access: yesSystems
As China’s economy grows and travel demand increases, its aviation market has evolved to become the second-largest in the world. This study presents a pioneering analysis of China’s aviation network evolution (1990–2024) by integrating temporal dynamics ...

The analysis and evaluation of the relation between road transportation and climate change [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The target of this article is to analyse and evaluate the relation between road transportation and climate change, through the long time series of average CO2 concentration in the atmosphere and global average temperature of Earth.

Jamming transition in air transportation networks

open access: yes, 2009
In this work we present a model of an air transportation traffic system from the complex network modelling viewpoint. In the network, every node corresponds to a given airport, and two nodes are connected by means of flight routes.

NKCC1: A key regulator of glioblastoma progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioblastoma (GBM) progression is driven by disrupted chloride cotransporter homeostasis. NKCC1 is highly expressed in stem‐like, astrocytic, and progenitor cells, correlating with earlier recurrence, while overall survival remains unaffected. NKCC1 serves as a prognostic marker and potential therapeutic target, linking chloride transporter imbalance ...

Resource allocation improvement in the tasks of airport ground handling operations

open access: yesAviation, 2015
It is a global trend for the airport ground handling market to become liberalised. Fiercer competition lead to the necessity to improve efficiency and minimise costs. A mathematical model of optimal resource allocation by aircraft ground handling company
