Nitride‐Reinforced Metal Matrix Nanocomposite Powders Production by Plasma‐Assisted Thermochemical Treatment of Intermetallic Powders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 5, 4 March 2026.
This study proposes a new methodology for producing metal matrix nanocomposites in the solid state. The process involves the plasma‐assisted thermochemical treatment of metallic alloy powders. As a proof‐of‐concept, TiN nanoparticles are synthesized directly on the surface of FeTi intermetallic powder particles, enabling the development of the ...

Single‐Pulse Nanomorphology Governs Laser‐Induced Periodic Surface Structure Formation on Metals

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, Volume 20, Issue 2, 22 January 2026.
Ultrashort pulse ablation enables generation of self‐organized periodic structures, where evolving nanomorphology controls pulse‐to‐pulse feedback. In noble metals, nanospikes form after the first pulse and localize surface waves, preventing periodic field distributions and thus suppressing their formation.

Influence of Workpiece Material on Tool Wear Performance and Tribofilm Formation in Machining Hardened Steel

open access: yesLubricants, 2016
In addition to the bulk properties of a workpiece material, characteristics of the tribofilms formed as a result of workpiece material mass transfer to the friction surface play a significant role in friction control.

Direct Recycling of Cold Work Tool Steel Swarf into New Cutting Disks via Field‐Assisted Sintering

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 22, November 2025.
Through a sintering method known as field‐assisted sintering technology/spark plasma sintering, cold work tool steel swarf can be directly recycled into new cutting disks. This method is capable of densifying the unconventional powder morphology of swarf, and it can also seal grinding contaminants, such as Al2O3, into the steel matrix.

Microstructural Evolution during DPRM Process of Semisolid Ledeburitic D2 Tool Steel

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2013
Semisolid metal processing is a relatively new technology that offers several advantages over liquid processing and solid processing because of the unique behaviour and characteristic microstructure of metals in this state.

Probing Early Particle‐Cell Membrane Interactions via Single‐Cell and Single‐Particle Interaction Analysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 46, November 12, 2025.
The pre‐internalization phase of endocytosis remains poorly characterized at single‐cell levels. Single‐cell pre‐internalization mechanics are investigated using advanced robotic techniques. Cancer cells exhibit biphasic adhesion – rapid initial binding followed by reinforcement – while fibroblasts show gradual engagement.

Flank Wear Modelling in High Speed Hard Milling of AISI D2 Steel

open access: yesInternational Journal of Engineering Materials and Manufacture, 2020
High speed machining has many advantages in reducing time to the market by increasing the material removal rate. However, final surface quality is one of the main challenges for manufacturers in high speed machining due to the increasing of flank wear ...

Analytical Model for Temperature Prediction in Milling AISI D2 with Minimum Quantity Lubrication

open access: yesMetals, 2022
Milling with minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) is now a commonly used machining technique in industry. The application of the MQL significantly reduces the temperature on the machined surface, while the cost of the lubricants is limited and the ...

EuPdSn2: magnetic structures in view of resonant X‐ray Bragg diffraction

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section B, Volume 81, Issue 5, Page 440-444, October 2025.
Structure factors informed by magnetic symmetry for resonant X‐ray diffraction by EuPdSn2 using Eu atomic resonances E1–E1 and E1–E2. Axial and polar (Dirac) electronic Eu multipoles are compulsory. The magnetic properties of materials hosting Eu2+ (J = 7/2, 4f7) ions have attracted much attention in the science of strongly correlated electrons.
