Structural and ultrametric properties of twenty(L-alanine)

open access: yes, 1993
We study local energy minima of twenty(L-alanine). The minima are generated using high-temperature Molecular Dynamics and Chain-Growth Monte Carlo simulations, with subsequent minimization.

Metabolomics analysis identifies d-Alanine-d-Alanine ligase as the primary lethal target of d-Cycloserine in mycobacteria.

open access: yesJournal of Proteome Research, 2014
d-Cycloserine is an effective second line antibiotic used as a last resort to treat multi (MDR)- and extensively (XDR) drug resistant strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis .

The Regulation of Trace Metal Elements in Cancer Ferroptosis

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
The induction of ferroptosis inhibits tumor growth, enhances anticancer efficacy, and overcomes drug resistance. Recent evidence shows nonferrous metal elements play a role in ferroptosis. This review focuses on how trace metals regulate ferroptosis processes like iron accumulation, lipid peroxidation, and antioxidant defense.

The Role of Structure in the Protein Dynamical Transition [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2008
The protein dynamical transition is investigated as a function of protein structure using terahertz time domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS). Measurements performed for native state and denatured hen egg white lysozyme (HEWL) show that protein structure is not necessary for the dynamical transition.

Chiral selectivity of amino acid adsorption on chiral surfaces - the case of alanine on Pt [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We study the binding pattern of the amino acid alanine on the naturally chiral Pt surfaces Pt(531), Pt(321) and Pt(643). These surfaces are all vicinal to the {111} direction but have different local environments of their kink sites and are thus a model for realistic roughened Pt surfaces.

Structure of the γ-D-glutamyl-L-diamino acid endopeptidase YkfC from Bacillus cereus in complex with L-Ala-γ-D-Glu: insights into substrate recognition by NlpC/P60 cysteine peptidases. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Dipeptidyl-peptidase VI from Bacillus sphaericus and YkfC from Bacillus subtilis have both previously been characterized as highly specific γ-D-glutamyl-L-diamino acid endopeptidases. The crystal structure of a YkfC ortholog from Bacillus cereus (BcYkfC)

β-alanine suppresses malignant breast epithelial cell aggressiveness through alterations in metabolism and cellular acidity in vitro

open access: yesMolecular Cancer, 2014
BackgroundDeregulated energetics is a property of most cancer cells. This phenomenon, known as the Warburg Effect or aerobic glycolysis, is characterized by increased glucose uptake, lactate export and extracellular acidification, even in the presence of

Maillard Type Reaction for Electroless Copper Plating onto Ceramic Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents the manufacturing of copper‐plated ceramic nanoparticles in an environmentally friendly way. Supported by organic functionalizations with pectin an electroless plating step can be performed. Sustainable reagents like xylose, and several amino acids are used for the reduction process.

The cupric complexes of glycine and of alanine [PDF]

open access: yes, 1932
The following report is the first of a projected series of studies of the physical chemistry of the compounds of the heavy metals, particularly of copper and of iron, with substances of biological importance. These studies are invited by the accumulation

Conformational variability of the glycine receptor M2 domain in response to activation by different agonists [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Models describing the structural changes mediating cys-loop receptor activation generally give little attention to the possibility that different agonists may promote activation via distinct M2 pore-lining domain structural rearrangements.
