The effect of three forms pyoverdin on mouse liver was studied. Significant increases of alanine amino transferase (ALT) and aspartate amino transferase (AST) were obtained in mice after ingestion of water with forms A and C. The effect on liver was more evident with A than with C. Pyoverdin was purified by means of salt saturation, solvent extractions

Turbidity as a cause of error in the L-alanine transferase (ALAT) method
Scandinavian Journal of Clinical and Laboratory Investigation, 1980When performing the ALAT-determination as recommended by the Scandinavian Committee on Enzymes, turbidity will develop due to a low ionic strength of the buffer. At the end of the pre-incubation period, the turbidity may still be developing, increasing the absorbance and lowering the ALAT-activity by 0-5 U/l.

24 h urinary alanine-amino-peptidase (AAP) and gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) activities were studied from the 3rd-7th month of life in male Wistar rats. A close relationship was found between AAP and GGT activity, except at the beginning and at the end of this period.

SYNOPSIS. Mitochondria and peroxisomes were isolated from homogenates of Tetrahymena pyriformis by sedimentation through a sucrose gradient. Succinate dehydrogenase was used as a mitochondrial marker; catalase and isocitrate lyase were used to mark the peroxisomal fraction.

Introduction: One third of world population (Two billion people) has been infected with hepatitis B virus. It is one of the most common infectious diseases among the world’s leading cause of death. HBV induced chronic liver disease is also an important precursor for the development of hepatocellular carcinoma even in absence of cirrhosis. Many subjects

Liver function tests (LFTs) are commonly deranged in diabetic patients. There is, however, paucity of local data on actual prevalence and pattern of LFTs abnormality among diabetic patients. A case-control study was carried out to study the pattern of LFTs abnormality among patients with type 2 diabetes (DM).

ABSTRACTObjective:The objective of this study was to investigate the consequences of low dietary folate intake and the impact of the 677 C→T methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) common mutation on liver function in obese adolescents. Methods:Fifty‐seven obese girls (BMI = 36.1 ± 6.0 kg/m2) aged 14.1 ± 1.5 years were included before starting a ...

AbstractBackground & AimsIt remains unclear whether the respective dose‐response relationships between serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and gamma‐glutamyl transferase (GGT) levels and risk of mortality are consistent by age.MethodsWe used sampled cohort data from the National Health Insurance Corporation to conduct a retrospective cohort study.

The efficiency of ethanolic fermentation in anoxia tolerance under sugar‐limiting conditions, as in the field is still matter of debate. Due to higher rates of glycolysis and ethanol fermentation, faster depletion of sugar stores leads to decreased survival.
