In vivo evaluation of the efficacy of albendazole sulfoxide and albendazole sulfoxide loaded solid lipid nanoparticles against hydatid cyst

Experimental Parasitology, 2013
Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is caused by the larval stage of Echinococcus granulosus, which in this disease the metacestode develop in visceral organs especially liver and lungs. The disease is present worldwide and affects humans as well as herbivores including cattle, sheep, camels, horses and others.

Therapeutic drug monitoring of albendazole: Determination of albendazole, albendazole sulfoxide, and albendazole sulfone in human plasma using nonaqueous capillary electrophoresis

Electrophoresis, 2000
A nonaqueous capillary electrophoretic method (NACE) for the fast determination of plasma levels of albendazole (ABZ), albendazole sulfoxide (ABZSO), and albendazole sulfone (ABZSO2) is described. The assay is based upon liquid/liquid extraction of these compounds using dichloromethane at pH 10.2 (recovery between 63 and 98%), followed by a NACE ...

Enantioselective kinetic disposition of albendazole sulfoxide in patients with neurocysticercosis

Chirality, 1999
The enantioselectivity of the kinetic disposition of albendazole sulfoxide (ASOX) was investigated in 18 patients with neurocysticercosis treated with a multiple dose regimen of albendazole for 8 days (5 mg/kg every 8 h). Serial blood samples were collected on the eighth day of treatment during the last dose interval, with prorogation up to 12 h ...

Scolicidal and apoptotic activities of albendazole sulfoxide and albendazole sulfoxide-loaded PLGA-PEG as a novel nanopolymeric particle against Echinococcus granulosus protoscoleces

Parasitology Research, 2016
Treatment failures of human cystic echinococcosis (CE) with albendazole (ABZ) have attributed to its low solubility and poor drug absorption rate, resulting in low drug level in plasma. The scolicidal effects of ABZ-loaded liposome nanoparticles have recently evaluated; however, these particles have several challenges due to their low encapsulated load.

Ginseng increases intestinal elimination of albendazole sulfoxide in the rat

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part - C: Toxicology and Pharmacology, 2003
Herbal products show potential drug interactions, some of them with adverse effects. The main aim of this work was to study the effect of Panax ginseng on the intestinal elimination of the benzimidazole derivative albendazole sulfoxide (ABZSO). An upper small intestine segment was isolated and perfused in situ with saline, while ABZSO solution (10 mg ...

The pharmacokinetics of albendazole metabolites following administration of albendazole, albendazole sulfoxide and netobimin to one-month- and eight-month-old sheep

International Journal for Parasitology, 1995
The principal metabolites detected in plasma of sheep following oral administration of albendazole (ABZ), albendazole sulfoxide (ABSO) and netobimin (NTB) each at 5.0 mg kg-1 body weight were ABSO and albendazole sulfone (ABSO2). The areas under the plasma concentration-time curve (AUC) for ABSO and ABSO2 were significantly (P < 0.05) larger following ...

Albendazole sulfoxide enantiomers: Preparative chiral separation and absolute stereochemistry

Journal of Chromatography A, 2012
The enantiomeric separation of albendazole sulfoxide was carried out by simulated moving bed chromatography with variable zones (VARICOL). An overall recovery of 97% was achieved and enantiomeric ratios of 99.5% for raffinate and 99.0% for extract were attained.
