Albendazole (ABZ) presystemic clearance was studied in rat by perfusion of a 25 microM ABZ solution in isolated intestinal loops. Significant secretion of the active metabolite, ABZSO, into the lumen was observed. The metabolite was also present in mesenteric blood.

Determination of concentration of albendazole sulfoxide in plasma and uterine fluid of heifers
American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1997Abstract Objectives To determine time and concentration of peak plasma and uterine fluid concentrations of albendazole (ABZ) sulfoxide (ABZSO) in heifers after oral administration of ABZ. Sample Population 25 young Angus and Simmental heifers maintained on pasture with ad libitum access to hay and water.

Enantioselective analysis of albendazole sulfoxide in plasma using the chiral stationary phase
Chirality, 1997We present a method for the enantioselective analysis of albendazole sulfoxide (ABZSO) in plasma for application in clinical pharmacokinetic studies. ABZSO enantiomers were separated on a 5-micron Chiralcel OB-H column (4.6 x 150 mm) using hexane:ethanol (93:7, v/v) as the mobile phase and fluorescence detection.

Echinococcus granulosus: membrane permeability of secondary hydatid cysts to albendazole sulfoxide
Parasitology Research, 1998The objectives of the present study were, first, to establish a methodology for evaluation of the permeability in vitro of hydatid cysts to different drugs and, second, to compare the permeability to albendazole sulfoxide of cysts from untreated animals, cysts from animals treated with 50 mg/kg netobimin for 5 days, and cysts from animals treated with ...

The enantioselective sulfoxidation of the prochiral anthelmintic compounds albendazole (ABZ) and fenbendazole (FBZ) was investigated in liver, lung and small intestinal microsomes obtained from healthy sheep and cattle. The microsomal fractions were incubated with a 40 microM concentration of either ABZ or FBZ.

AbstractThe prochiral anthelmintic drug albendazole was administered orally to sheep and rats. Blood samples were taken at standardized intervals during the time course of the plasma kinetics: 18 h in rats and 48 h in sheep. The enantiomeric ratio of the sulfoxide metabolite was determined by means of HPLC on a chiral stationary phase, the chiral ...

Effect of repeated doses of albendazole on enantiomerism of its sulfoxide metabolite in goats
American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1992SUMMARY Five adult Saanen goats were dosed orally 3 times with albendazole (2.5 mg/kg of body weight) at 24-hour intervals, and blood samples were taken by jugular venapuncture at standardized intervals. Plasma was analyzed to determine concentrations of S-oxidation metabolites, and a chiral column was used for enantiomeric discrimination of the ...

ABSTRACTThe development and validation of an LC‐MS/MS method for the simultaneous determination of albendazole metabolites (albendazole sulfoxide and albendazole sulfone) in human plasma are described. Samples of 200 μL were extracted with ether–dichloromethane–chloroform (60:30:10, v/v/v).

Therapeutic Monitoring of Albendazole
Therapeutic Drug Monitoring, 1990A sensitive and specific reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method is described for the quantitative determination of albendazole sulfoxide (ASOX); since albendazole sulfone (ASON) appears only in small amounts and albendazole (ABZ) normally does not appear in human plasma, only a qualitative determination of ASON and ABZ was ...

SUMMARY The in vitro biological oxidation of albendazole to its pharmacologically active sulfoxide and its sulfone by ovine liver microsomes has been studied. Sulfoxidation (maximal rate = 0.412 nmole/min/mg of protein, Michaelis constant = 185 × 10−6 M) was 107 times more potent than formation of albendazole sulfone. The sulfoxidation corresponds to a
