Genetic analysis of egg quality traits in White Leghorn chicken

open access: yesVeterinary World, 2013
Aim: The present study was undertaken to estimate the genetic parameters and to assess the inheritance pattern of egg quality traits in White Leghorns. Materials and Methods: Data on 480 eggs produced by 40 week old pullets of 4 genetic groups were used ...

Screening and epitope characterization of Nidogen‐2‐specific nanobodies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Camel immunization and phage display were employed to generate high‐affinity VHH nanobodies against Nidogen‐2. After library construction, biopanning, ELISA screening, sequencing, and recombinant expression, selected nanobodies were purified and characterized, leading to the preliminary exploration of a nanobody‐based sandwich ELISA for specific ...

Effect of Certain Physical Factors on Yolk Mottling and Albumen Quality of Eggs

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1967
Abstract MOTTLED yolks, often observed in stored eggs and less frequently in fresh eggs, were reported more than 30 years ago (Almquist, 1933). Yet, knowledge of determinants of yolk mottling are limited primarily to the effects of “Nicarbazine” as reported by many workers including Polin and Porter (1956), Weiss (1957) and Baker et al.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Effect of time of oviposition on egg quality characteristics in cages and in a litter housing system

open access: yesCzech Journal of Animal Science, 2005
Two experiments were carried out to investigate the effect of the time of oviposition on egg quality characteristics in two different housing systems (cages vs. litter). ISA brown hens from 20 to 64 weeks of age were housed in battery cages (550 cm2/hen,

Suppression of lung adenocarcinoma migration through organelle alkalization by human lactoferrin – albumin fusion

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This paper reveals how human lactoferrin–albumin fusion (hLF‐HSA) potently suppresses lung adenocarcinoma cell migration. hLF‐HSA upregulates NHE7, leading to Golgi alkalization, disruption of the Golgi secretome, downregulation of MMP1, and reversal of EMT. These findings suggest a novel Golgi‐targeting strategy to suppress cancer cell migration.

Factors Affecting the Quality Loss in Egg Albumen During Storage

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1959
Abstract SOME of the processes which accompany the thinning of the thick albumen during egg storage are loss of CO2, loss of water, and water movement from the albumen to the yolk. Numerous experiments on storage of eggs at high CO2 concentrations as well as experiments on different methods of shell sealing have demonstrated that the CO2 ...

Variation Among Commercial Strains of Chickens in Loss of Egg Albumen Quality

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1964
Abstract ALTHOUGH the level of initial or “fresh” albumen quality is well recognized as having a genetic basis, the genetic determination of rate of albumen quality loss during storage has not been clearly established. Lorenz et al. (1934) claimed that rate of liquefaction of egg white and initial percentage of firm albumen tended to be negatively ...

Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.
