l‐Rhamnose isomerase (l‐RhI) catalyzes the reversible isomerization of l‐rhamnose to l‐rhamnulose. Previously determined X‐ray structures of l‐RhI showed a hydride‐shift mechanism for the isomerization of substrates in a linear form, but the mechanism for opening of the sugar‐ring is still unclear.

To overcome the bottleneck of inefficient xylose utilization in lignocellulosic bioethanol production, we constructed a recombinant Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain (INVSc‐xylA‐Xltr1p‐TKL1) by overexpressing the transketolase gene TKL1. This engineering strategy significantly enhanced xylose consumption by 33%, upregulated xylose isomerase (xylA ...

Sugar Alcohols, Caries Incidence, and Remineralization of Caries Lesions: A Literature Review
Remineralization of minor enamel defects is a normal physiological process that is well known to clinicians and researchers in dentistry and oral biology. This process can be facilitated by various dietary and oral hygiene procedures and may also concern dentin caries lesions.

Abstract The use of matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) mass spectrometry for the analysis of carbohydrates and glycoconjugates is a well‐established technique and this review is the 12th update of the original article published in 1999 and brings coverage of the literature to the end of 2022.

Enzymes of the gluconeogenic/glycolytic pathway (the Embden‐Meyerhof‐Parnas (EMP) pathway), the reductive tricarboxylic acid cycle, the reductive pentose phosphate cycle and the Entner‐Doudoroff pathway are widely distributed and are often considered to be central to the origins of metabolism.

Abstract Flavor contributes significantly to consumer preferences of cooked sweetpotato. Sugars largely drive the sweet taste, while the volatile organic compounds (VOCs), mainly classified as alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, and terpenes, provide characteristic aromas and influence the overall perception of flavor.

GnuR Represses the Expression of Glucose and Gluconate Catabolism in Pseudomonas putida KT2440
In this work, we found that both glucose and gluconate can significantly induce the expression of catabolic enzymes of glucose and gluconate metabolism and the four related transcription factors including GnuR in Pseudomonas putida KT2440, a prime chassis for biotechnology.
