Hypoparathyroidism unmasked by alendronate [PDF]

open access: yesPostgraduate Medical Journal, 2000
Abstract The case of an elderly woman is reported in whom alendronate, given for osteoporosis, led to severe hypocalcaemia a few days after starting the drug treatment. This was caused by the unmasking of previously unrecognised hypoparathyroidism.

Romosozumab Followed by Antiresorptive Treatment Increases the Probability of Achieving Bone Mineral Density Treatment Goals

open access: yesJBMR Plus, 2021
Increases in bone mineral density (BMD) with osteoporosis treatment are associated with reduced fracture risk. Increasing BMD is therefore a goal of osteoporosis therapy.

Alendronate nanoparticles promote fracture healing by inhibiting LRP4 to activate the Wnt/β-catenin pathway

open access: yesEuropean Cells & Materials
Background: Fracture is a common skeletal disorder, and fracture healing is a complex biological process. The Wingless-Int-Integrated/beta-catenin (Wnt/β-catenin) signaling pathway plays an important role in bone formation and fracture healing.

Pharmacokinetics of alendronate in a combined Alendronate/Vitamin D3 tablet in healthy volunteers using plasma and urine data [PDF]

open access: yesSongklanakarin Journal of Science and Technology (SJST), 2013
Alendronate is indicated for treatment of a variety of bone metabolism disorders. In spite of quite low plasma concentrationsfollowing oral administration, pharmacokinetic study of alendronate based on plasma concentrations had normally been reported for

Preventing muscle wasting by osteoporosis drug alendronate in vitro and in myopathy models via sirtuin‐3 down‐regulation

open access: yesJournal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle, 2018
Background A global consensus on the loss of skeletal muscle mass and function in humans refers as sarcopenia and cachexia including diabetes, obesity, renal failure, and osteoporosis. Despite a current improvement of sarcopenia or cachexia with exercise

Effect of alendronate and platelet-rich plasma in tendon-bones integration in sheep anterior cruciate ligament surgery [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy & Pharmacognosy Research
Context: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction often faces challenges due to poor integration of the tendon with bone. Aims: To evaluate the potential benefits of alendronate and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in enhancing tendon-to-bone ...

Esophageal ulcer and alendronate [PDF]

open access: yesSao Paulo Medical Journal, 1998
OBJECTIVE: To describe a case of esophageal ulcer associated with the use of alendronate. CASE REPORT: This is the fifth case ever described in the literature according to our bibliographic review. In our patient, the association between the drug and the esophageal lesions was masked by the presence of a hiatal hernia, potentially a cause of the ...

Modified Titanium Dental Implants: The Current Progress of Soft‐Tissue Integration Methods

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
Dental implants are an established solution for tooth loss, yet achieving soft tissue integration (STI) around the transmucosal region remains a challenge. The natural tooth–gingiva interface is poorly replicated on titanium implants. This review explores surface modification strategies, ranging from surface chemistry and topography to biological ...
