Advances in alginate lyases and the potential application of enzymatic prepared alginate oligosaccharides: A mini review

International Journal of Biological Macromolecules
Alginate is mainly a linear polysaccharide composed of randomly arranged β-D-mannuronic acid and α-L-guluronic acid linked by α, β-(1,4)-glycosidic bonds. Alginate lyases degrade alginate mainly adopting a β-elimination mechanism, breaking the glycosidic bonds between the monomers and forming a double bond between the C4 and C5 sugar rings to produce ...

Preparation and potential applications of alginate oligosaccharides

Critical Reviews in Food Science and Nutrition, 2022
Alginate, a linear polymer consisting of β-D-mannuronic acid (M) and α-L-guluronic acid (G) with 1,4-glycosidic linkages and comprising 40% of the dry weight of algae, possesses various applications in the food and nutraceutical industries. However, the potential applications of alginate are restricted in some fields because of its low water solubility

Alginate-Derived Mannuronate Oligosaccharide Attenuates Tauopathy through Enhancing Autophagy

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2021
Polymannuronate (PM) is an acidic polysaccharide prepared from alginate, contained in edible brown seaweeds. An unsaturated mannuronate oligosaccharide (MOS) is an enzymatically depolymerized oligosaccharide prepared from PM. The effects of MOS on attenuating tauopathy were studied in HEK293/Tau cells and primary triple transgenic (3×Tg) neurons.

Metabolism and Calcium Antagonism of Sodium Alginate Oligosaccharides

Bioscience, Biotechnology, and Biochemistry, 2007
Sodium alginate oligosaccharides (NaAOs) consisting of a mixture of eight oligosaccharides have previously been reported to lower blood pressure. We investigated in this study the excretion of NaAOs into the urine or feces, and attempted to elucidate the mechanism for lowering blood pressure by using isolated mesenteric arteries from the rabbit.

Alginate-chitosan oligosaccharide-ZnO composite hydrogel for accelerating wound healing

Carbohydrate Polymers, 2021
Moist, breathable and antibacterial microenvironment can promote cell proliferation and migration, which is beneficial to wound healing. Here, we fabricated a novel sodium alginate-chitosan oligosaccharide‑zinc oxide (SA-COS-ZnO) composite hydrogel by spontaneous Schiff base reaction, using aldehydated sodium alginate (SA), chitosan oligosaccharide ...

Production of Oligosaccharide from Alginate Using Pseudoalteromonas agarovorans

Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology, 2009
A marine bacterium was isolated from seawater near the Korean south coast for efficient saccharification from alginate. Based on 16S rDNA sequence, the isolated strain was identified as Pseudoalteromonas agarovorans. Various environmental factors affecting saccharification of alginate using P. agarovorans CHO-12 have been investigated in flask cultures.

Synthesis of Alginate Oligosaccharides Containing L‐Guluronic Acids

Chemistry – An Asian Journal, 2009
AbstractMaking ends meet: The L‐gulopyranosyl trichloroacetimidate and 1,6‐anhydro‐2,3‐di‐O‐benzyl‐β‐L‐gulopyranose, efficiently derived from L‐ascorbic acid, were individually used as a starting unit and an elongation unit to prepare L‐guluronic acid linked alginate oligosaccharides in excellent α selectivity and in good yields.magnified ...

Alginate oligosaccharides enhance small intestine cell integrity and migration ability

Life Sciences, 2020
An integral intestinal barrier is essential for intestinal homeostasis. Yet, as a side effect of cancer treatment, chemotherapeutic drugs have been reported to cause mucositis. In a recent study, we found that alginate oligosaccharides (AOS) prevent busulfan induced intestinal mucositis.

Separation and Identification of Individual Alginate Oligosaccharides in the Feces of Alginate-Fed Pigs

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2013
This research aimed to develop a method for analyzing specific alginate oligosaccharides (AOS) in a complex matrix such as pig feces. The data obtained were used to study alginate degradation by the microbiota in the large intestine during adaptation, including the individual variation between pigs.

Preparation and potential antitumor activity of alginate oligosaccharides degraded by alginate lyase from Cobetia marina

Carbohydrate Research, 2023
It is of great significance to develop marine resources and study its potential biological activity by using alginate lyase produced by marine psychrophilic bacteria. In the previous study, a new marine psychrophilic bacterium (Cobetia marina HQZ08) was screened from the growth area of Laminaria japonica, and it was found that the strain could ...
