Advances in alginate lyases and the potential application of enzymatic prepared alginate oligosaccharides: A mini review

International Journal of Biological Macromolecules
Alginate is mainly a linear polysaccharide composed of randomly arranged β-D-mannuronic acid and α-L-guluronic acid linked by α, β-(1,4)-glycosidic bonds. Alginate lyases degrade alginate mainly adopting a β-elimination mechanism, breaking the glycosidic bonds between the monomers and forming a double bond between the C4 and C5 sugar rings to produce ...

Alginate oligosaccharides enhanced Triticum aestivum L. tolerance to drought stress

open access: yesPlant Physiology and Biochemistry, 2013
Alginate oligosaccharides (AOS) prepared from degradation of alginate is a potent plant elicitor. Hydroponic experiments were carried out to investigate the mechanism of AOS on improving Triticum aestivum L resistant ability to drought stress.

Preparation and potential applications of alginate oligosaccharides

Critical Reviews in Food Science and Nutrition, 2022
Alginate, a linear polymer consisting of β-D-mannuronic acid (M) and α-L-guluronic acid (G) with 1,4-glycosidic linkages and comprising 40% of the dry weight of algae, possesses various applications in the food and nutraceutical industries. However, the potential applications of alginate are restricted in some fields because of its low water solubility

Production of Oligosaccharide from Alginate Using Pseudoalteromonas agarovorans

Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology, 2009
A marine bacterium was isolated from seawater near the Korean south coast for efficient saccharification from alginate. Based on 16S rDNA sequence, the isolated strain was identified as Pseudoalteromonas agarovorans. Various environmental factors affecting saccharification of alginate using P. agarovorans CHO-12 have been investigated in flask cultures.

Rational design of alginate lyase ALYI1 for improving the antioxidant activity of the alginate oligosaccharides

Food Chemistry
To achieve the cost-effective alginate oligosaccharides production, we have developed a novel rational design strategy that optimized capture behavior, orientation movement and hydrogen bond interaction of substrate in alginate lyase ALYI1. This approach led to S56D and G258Q advantageous variants balancing the trade-off challenge, particularly S56D ...
