Alk: A Formal-Methods-based Educational Platform for Enhancing Algorithmic Thinking

open access: yesScientific Annals of Computer Science
Algorithm design courses are fundamental to computer science curricula, but fostering algorithmic thinking in students is challenging due to the diverse skills and creativity required. Dedicated teaching support tools can help both course instructors and

Levels of thinking in computer science: Development in bachelor students’ conceptualization of algorithm [PDF]

open access: yesEducation and Information Technologies, 2009
How do we know if our students are beginning to think like computer scientists? In a first study we defined four levels of abstraction in computer science students’ thinking about the concept of algorithm. We constructed a list of questions about algorithms to measure the answering level as an indication for the thinking level.

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

Selected Remarks about Computer Processing in Terms of Flow Control and Statistical Mechanics

open access: yesEntropy, 2016
Despite the fact that much has been said about processing in computer science, it seems that there is still much to do. A classical approach assumes that the computations done by computers are a kind of mathematical operation (calculations of functions ...

Somatic mutational landscape in von Hippel–Lindau familial hemangioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The causes of central nervous system (CNS) hemangioblastoma in Von Hippel–Lindau (vHL) disease are unclear. We used Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) on familial hemangioblastoma to investigate events that underlie tumor development. Our findings suggest that VHL loss creates a permissive environment for tumor formation, while additional alterations ...

"Upperview" algorithm design in teaching computer science in high schools

open access: yesTeaching Mathematics and Computer Science, 2005
In this paper we are going to present a teaching/learning method and suggest a syllabus that help the high school students look at the algorithm design strategies from a so called "upperview": greedy, backtracking, divide and conquer, dynamic programming.

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

Overview of molecular signatures of senescence and associated resources: pros and cons

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cells can enter a stress response state termed cellular senescence that is involved in various diseases and aging. Detecting these cells is challenging due to the lack of universal biomarkers. This review presents the current state of senescence identification, from biomarkers to molecular signatures, compares tools and approaches, and highlights ...
