Patterns and Drivers of Mercury Accumulation in Croplands, a Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Biogeosciences, Volume 131, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Mercury (Hg) is a potent neurotoxin that poses risks to human and environmental health, particularly in regions influenced by anthropogenic Hg emissions. Although Hg emissions have declined across North America and Europe following regulatory controls and phase‐outs, emissions remain elevated in some regions due to activities such as artisanal

Strong‐Acid Weathering in a Carbonate‐Siliciclastic Cropland Diminishes Removal of CO2 From the Atmosphere Without Becoming a CO2 Source

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Biogeosciences, Volume 131, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract One strategy to remove carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere is to accelerate weathering in croplands by adding powdered rock. Both silicate and carbonate minerals can be effective as amendments, but strong acids from rain and fertilizer diminish CO2 removal and can promote degassing of CO2 from carbonate minerals (geogenic CO2).

Apatite as a Proxy for Reconstructing Magma Mixing Histories in Granitoids

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 27, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Apatite is a common accessory mineral in granites and mafic microgranular enclaves (MMEs), and its textural and compositional characteristics can record dynamic magmatic evolution processes. Apatites from the Early Cretaceous Sanguliu granite and its MMEs in the Liaodong Peninsula exhibit pronounced compositional heterogeneities. In this study,

Air–Water Greenhouse Gases Exchange in Surface Waters of Deception Island (South Shetland Archipelago, Antarctica): Assessment of Drivers of Spatial Variability

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Biogeosciences, Volume 131, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Greenhouse gases (GHGs) such as Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Methane (CH4), and Nitrous Oxide (N2O) play critical roles in global climate change. CO2 dominates due to its high concentration and long atmospheric lifetime, while CH4 and N2O also exert strong heat‐trapping effects despite shorter residence times. Deception Island, in the Southern Ocean,
