Clinical application experience of asfotase alfa for a young patient with childhood hypophosphatasia

open access: yesОстеопороз и остеопатии, 2019
Hypophosphatasia (HPP) is a rare hereditary metabolic disease characterized by defective bone and dental mineralization, systemic complications that lead to disability of patients.

The Study of Serum Prostate Specific Antigen and Phosphatase Isoenzymes Activity as Diagnostic Parameters in Patients with Prostate Cancer in Nigeria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Serum activities of Acid Phosphatase (ACP) and Prostatic Acid Phosphatase (PAP) are still employed in most hospitals in Nigeria for the diagnosis of prostate cancer, because of lack of resources for prostate specific antigen (PSA) assay.

Temporal Control over Transient Chemical Systems using Structurally Diverse Chemical Fuels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The next generation of adaptive, intelligent chemical systems will rely on a continuous supply of energy to maintain the functional state. Such systems will require chemical methodology that provides precise control over the energy dissipation process ...

Establishment and optimization of the two‐step induction system for generating primordial germ cell‐like cells from chicken embryonic stem cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study optimizes a two‐step induction system to generate PGCLCs from chicken ESCs. The induced cells express germline markers and migrate to gonads in ovo, offering a novel approach for avian genetic resource conservation. Primordial germ cells (PGCs) are the progenitor cells of sperm and eggs.

Effect of gallic acid on Alkaline phosphatase gene expression in vascular smooth muscle cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Background and purpose: Vascular calcification is an important factor in pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. Studies have shown that alkaline phosphatase increases vascular calcification.

DNA 3 '-Phosphatase Activity Is Critical for Rapid Global Rates of Single-Strand Break Repair following Oxidative Stress [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Oxidative stress is a major source of chromosome single-strand breaks (SSBs), and the repair of these lesions is retarded in neurodegenerative disease. The rate of the repair of oxidative SSBs is accelerated by XRCC1, a scaffold protein that is essential

Diabetes‐induced vascular calcification is associated with low pyrophosphate and its oral supplementation prevents calcification in diabetic mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Induction of diabetes in three different mouse strains uniformly resulted in an increase in TNAP activity and a reduction in pyrophosphate (PPi) in the circulation. Inhibition of TNAP restored plasma PPi. Diabetes‐induced calcification in the media layer of the aorta was detected only in the Abcc6−/− strain, which is predisposed to ectopic ...

Effects of Alkaline Phosphatase, GATA, and BMP Expression on Three Populations of Cells: Spermatogonial Stem Cells, Embryonic Cells, and Embryonic Stem-Like Cells in Mice [PDF]

open access: yesمجله دانشگاه علوم پزشکی گرگان, 2023
Background and Objective: Alkaline phosphatase, BMP, and GATA proteins are important factors in the process of spermatogenesis. This study aims to investigate the effect of alkaline phosphatase, GATA, and BMP expression on spermatogenic stem cells ...

Calcium‐sensing receptor induces the apoptosis of chondrocytes in cooperation with phosphate transporter

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Excess Ca2+ ions activate the Calcium‐Sensing Receptor (CaSR), which subsequently drives the uptake of excess inorganic phosphate (Pi) via the Pi transporter (Pit−1) in chondrocytes. This mechanism causes a toxic increase in intracellular Pi concentration, ultimately leading to chondrocyte apoptosis and pathological mineralization. Excess extracellular

Thyroxine is the serum factor that regulates morphogenesis of columnar cartilage from isolated chondrocytes in chemically defined medium. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
Epiphyseal chondrocytes cultured in a medium containing 10% serum may be maintained as three dimensional aggregates and differentiate terminally into hypertrophic cells.
