Allergic Proctocolitis Is a Risk Factor for Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders in Children [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Pediatrics, 2018
To test the hypothesis that allergic proctocolitis, a cause of self-limiting rectal bleeding in infants, can predispose to the development of functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGIDs) later in childhood. We studied a cohort of 80 consecutive patients diagnosed with allergic proctocolitis.

Predictors for late tolerance development in food protein‐induced allergic proctocolitis

open access: yesAllergy and Asthma Proceedings, 2020
Background: Food protein-induced allergic proctocolitis (FPIAP) is a non‐immunoglobulin E (IgE) mediated food allergy that typically presents with blood-mixed mucoid stool. Objective: To identify the predictors that affect the tolerance development in infants with FPAIP and laboratory as well as clinical differences between patients with early and ...

Characteristics of children with food protein‐induced enterocolitis and allergic proctocolitis

open access: yesAllergy and Asthma Proceedings, 2017
The aim of this study was to determine and compare the clinical and laboratory features of food protein-induced enterocolitis syndrome (FPIES) and food protein-induced allergic proctocolitis (FPIAP), and to provide information about the short-term prognoses.Children diagnosed with FPIES or FPIAP between 2010 and 2015 were enrolled in this study.Overall,

Allergic proctocolitis in infants: A prospective clinicopathologic biopsy study

Human Pathology, 1993
Allergic proctocolitis is a major cause of rectal bleeding in infants, but its clinical features and laboratory results are often nonspecific. Our previous retrospective study demonstrated that large numbers of eosinophils in colonic mucosal biopsy specimens were highly associated with cases of allergic proctocolitis.

Food Protein-Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome, Allergic Proctocolitis, and Enteropathy

Current Allergy and Asthma Reports, 2015
Food protein-induced enterocolitis (FPIES), allergic proctocolitis (FPIAP), and enteropathy (FPE) are among a number of immune-mediated reactions to food that are thought to occur primarily via non-IgE-mediated pathways. All three are typically present in infancy and are triggered most commonly by cow's milk protein.
