C2α‐carbanion‐protonating glutamate discloses tradeoffs between substrate accommodation and reaction rate in actinobacterial 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Enzymes of the 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase group catalyze the condensation of formyl‐CoA with aldehydes or ketones. Thus, by structural adaptation of active sites, practically any pharmaceutically and industrially important 2‐hydroxyacid could be biotechnologically synthesized. Combining crystal structure analysis, active site mutations and kinetic assays,

Construction of zero correlation zone Gaussian integer sequence set

open access: yesTongxin xuebao, 2017
The construction of zero correlation zone (ZCZ) Gaussian integer sequence set was researched.Based on binary orthogonal matrices,ZCZ ternary sequence sets were constructed by adding zeros at first. Then the ternary ZCZ squences were transformed into ...

Optimal Auctions with Financial Externalities

open access: yes
We construct optimal auctions when bidders face financial externalities. In a Coasean World, in which the seller cannot prevent a perfect resale market, nor withhold the object, the lowest-price all-pay auction is optimal. In a Myersonean World, in which ...

Almost Optimal Dispersers

open access: yes, 2002
A (K,ɛ) disperser is a bipartite graph G=(V1,V2,E) with the property that every subset A of V1 of cardinality at least K, has at least 1 − ɛ fraction of the vertices of V2 as neighbors. Such graphs have many applications in derandomization.

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Alcohol/Leisure Complementarity: Empirical Estimates and Implications for Tax Policy [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper provides a first attempt to estimate the cross-price elasticity between alcoholic beverages and leisure, which is critical for assessing how much alcohol taxation might be warranted on fiscal grounds.

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

Izkoriščanje sončne energije na Krasu : Solar energy exploitation on Kras [PDF]

open access: yesGeodetski Vestnik, 2007
The article discusses solar energy exploitation on Kras, one of the sunniest Slovenian regions. GIS methods were used to assemble a decision tree model that provided areas most suitable for solar energy exploitation.

Almost Optimal PAC Learning for 𝑘-Means

open access: yesProceedings of the 57th Annual ACM Symposium on Theory of Computing
Given a set of points, the k-means clustering problem consists of finding a partition of a set of points into k clusters such that the sum of squared Euclidean distances between the points and their assigned centers is minimized. In this paper, we consider learning bounds for this problem.

Establishing an assay to evaluate d‐amino acid oxidase enzyme kinetics and inhibition using WST‐8 redox dye

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study investigated a novel WST‐8‐based assay for evaluating d‐Amino acid oxidase (DAO) inhibitors. We confirmed its effectiveness using known inhibitors and found that uremic toxins possess relatively weak inhibitory activity compared to existing drugs.
