Separating signal from noise

open access: yes, 2014
Suppose that a sequence of numbers $x_n$ (a `signal') is transmitted through a noisy channel. The receiver observes a noisy version of the signal with additive random fluctuations, $x_n + \xi_n$, where $\xi_n$ is a sequence of independent standard ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

RACE-OC Project: Rotation and variability in the open cluster M11 (NGC6705)

open access: yes, 2009
Rotation and magnetic activity are intimately linked in main-sequence stars of G or later spectral types. The presence and level of magnetic activity depend on stellar rotation, and rotation itself is strongly influenced by strength and topology of the ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Gowers norms for automatic sequences

open access: yesDiscrete Analysis, 2023
Gowers norms for automatic sequences, Discrete Analysis 2023:4, 62 pp. There are several situations in additive and extremal combinatorics where it is useful to decompose an object $X$ into a "structured" part $S(X)$ and a "quasirandom" part $Q(X)$.

Pointwise convergence of almost periodic Fourier series and associated series of dilates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Let $\mathcal S^2$ be the Stepanov space and let $ \lambda_n\uparrow\infty$. Let $(a_n)_{n\ge 1}$ be satisfying Wiener's condition $A:= \sum_{n\ge 1} \big(\sum_{k\, :\, n\le \lambda_k \le n+1}|a_k|\big)^2 0$ denotes a universal constant.

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

Exploiting metabolic adaptations to overcome dabrafenib treatment resistance in melanoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that dabrafenib‐resistant melanoma cells undergo mitochondrial remodeling, leading to elevated respiration and ROS production balanced by stronger antioxidant defenses. This altered redox state promotes survival despite mitochondrial damage but renders resistant cells highly vulnerable to ROS‐inducing compounds such as PEITC, highlighting redox

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Depositional facies and migration of the eruptive loci for Atexcac axalapazco (central Mexico): implications for the morphology of the crater

open access: yesRevista Mexicana de Ciencias Geológicas, 2018
Phreatomagmatic explosions produced an alternated stratified sequence of surge and fallout deposits that formed the Atexcac axalapazco in the eastern Mexican Volcanic Belt.
