Rhein and Aloe-Emodin Kinetics from Senna Laxatives in Man

Pharmacology, 2008
Therapeutic doses of two laxatives (Agiolax® and Sennatin®) were repeatedly administered to 10 healthy volunteers in a two-way change-over design. Blood samples were collected up to 96 h after the first dose, and plasma levels of total aloe-emodin and rhein were determined simultaneously with a sensitive (lower limit of quantification: 0.5 ng aloe ...

Aloe emodin decreases the ERK-dependent anticancer activity of cisplatin

Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences, 2005
The present study describes the ability of an anthraquinone derivative aloe emodin (AE) to reduce the cytotoxic activity of the platinum(II)-based anticancer agent cisplatin toward murine L929 fibrosarcoma and C6 glioma cell lines. The protective effect of AE was demonstrated by MTT and crystal violet assays for cell viability, and involved supression ...

Antibacterial activity of aloe emodin and aloin A isolated from Aloe excelsa

2009
Different extracts of leaves of Aloe excelsa were prepared and two compounds; 1,8-dihydroxy-3-hydromethyl-9,10-antracenedione and 10-C-b-D-glucopyranosyl-1,8-dihydroxymethyl-9-anthracenone, were isolated and tested for antibacterial activities against four Gram negative and five Gram positive bacterial strains.
