Abnormal prothrombin (DES-y-Carboxy Prothrombin) in hepatocellular carcinoma [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
Des-γ-carboxy prothrombin (DCP), a protein induced by vitamin K absence or antagonist-II (PIVKA-II) was measured by an enzyme immunoassay (E-1023) using anti-DCP monoclonal antibody in 92 patients with various hepatobiliary diseases. Thirty-six of the 38

Early Detection of Hepatocellular Carcinoma Recurrence Using the Highly Sensitive Fucosylated Fraction of Alpha-Fetoprotein

open access: yesCase Reports in Gastroenterology, 2017
Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP)-L3 was originally reported as a hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC)-specific tumor marker, and recent accumulation of evidence has revealed that AFP-L3 frequency predicts the biological malignancy potential of HCC.

First-trimester or second-trimester screening, or both, for Down's syndrome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
BACKGROUND: It is uncertain how best to screen pregnant women for the presence of fetal Down's syndrome: to perform first-trimester screening, to perform second-trimester screening, or to use strategies incorporating measurements in both trimesters ...

Unraveling the Morphological and Functional Maturation Mechanisms Underlying Human Neural Development Using iPSCs‐Derived Neuronal Model

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs)‐derived neuronal model, Tian and colleagues reveal that voltage‐gated calcium channels Cav1.2 and Cav1.3, and their mediated calcium ion influx, are essential for early morphogenesis of human neuronal development, while ECEL1 underlies human neuronal functional developmental maturation through CALM3 ...

Small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma expressing alpha fetoprotein in the endometrium

open access: yesOpen Life Sciences, 2021
Rare small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (SCNEC) cases showed alpha fetoprotein (AFP) expression in the endometrium. In this study, we reported a case of uterine SCNEC expressing AFP.

Conversion of Transplanted Mature Hepatocytes into Afp+ Reprogrammed Cells for Liver Regeneration After Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Donor‐derived tdTomato+ mature hepatocytes were FACS‐isolated and transplanted into Fah−/− host mice. During regeneration, these cells convert into proliferative, unipotent Afp+ rHeps. Their plasticity is governed by a PPARγ/AFP‐dependent metabolic switch, segregating into pro‐proliferative Afplow and pro‐survival Afphigh subpopulations.

Expression of acid cleavable Asp-Pro linked multimeric AFP peptide in E. coli

open access: yesJournal of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, 2021
Background Difficult to express peptides are usually produced by co-expression with fusion partners. In this case, a significant mass part of the recombinant product falls on the subsequently removed fusion partner.
