A role of alpha-tocopherol and phylloquinone in the modulation of uterine contractility and reproductive function in mouse models

open access: yesMedicina, 2017
Background and aim: Alpha-tocopherol has been implicated in reproduction processes, and deficiency of phylloquinone has been associated with serious complications in pregnancy.

Effect of the Enrichment of Corn Oil With alpha- or gamma-Tocopherol on Its In Vitro Digestion Studied by 1H NMR and SPME-GC/MS; Formation of Hydroperoxy-, Hydroxy-, Keto-Dienes and Keto-E-epoxy-E-Monoenes in the More alpha-Tocopherol Enriched Samples

open access: yesAntioxidants, 2020
The aim of this study is the analysis of the in vitro digestion of corn oil, and of the effect of its enrichment with three levels of gamma- and alpha-tocopherol, by using, for the first time, 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) and a solid phase ...

Frailty Exacerbates Disability in Progressive Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background To evaluate frailty in severe progressive multiple sclerosis (PMS) and to investigate the underlying mechanisms. Methods This prospective, cross‐sectional, multicenter study enrolled a late severe PMS group requiring skilled nursing (n = 53) and an age, sex, and disease duration‐matched control PMS group (n = 53).

A simple micro method for determination of plasma levels of alpha tocopherol (Vitamin E) in Pakistani normal adults. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
A relatively simple spectrophotometeric method has been developed for the determination of alpha tocopherol in human plasma. Method is modification of a previous micromethod base on oxidation of alpha tocopherol by ferric chloride. The complex of ferrous

Counterion Dependent Side‐Chain Relaxation Stiffens a Chemically Doped Thienothiophene Copolymer

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Oxidation of a thienothiophene copolymer, p(g3TT‐T2), via different doping strategies and dopant molecules resulted in materials with similar oxidation levels and a high electrical conductivity of ≈100 S cm−1. However, mechanical properties varied significantly, with sub‐glass transition temperatures and elastic moduli spanning from –44°C to –3°C and ...

Prospective randomized controlled pilot study on the effects of almond consumption on skin lipids and wrinkles. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
ObjectiveAlmonds are a rich source of fatty acids and antioxidants, and their supplementation is known to significantly modulate serum lipids. The effects of almond on the skin's lipid barrier and the appearance of wrinkles have not yet been elucidated ...

Metallofullerenol Sc3N@C80(OH)18: A New Generation Radioprotector Protecting Human Erythrocytes Against Multiple Biochemical Damage Modes Upon Gamma Irradiation, Identifying It as a Scavenger of Short‐ and Long‐Lived Radicals

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Metallofullerenol Sc3N@C80(OH)18 demonstrates strong radioprotective properties as a scavenger of both short‐ and long‐lived radicals. The study reveals protection of human erythrocytes from γ‐radiation–induced biochemical damage via post‐irradiation removal of primary and secondary reactive oxidants, supported by pulse radiolysis kinetics.

Routine assay for determination of alpha-tocopherol in liver.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1980
A rapid and accurate procedure for determination of alpha-tocopherol in liver has been developed. Extracts of saponified liver homogenates were purified by a simple and efficient chromatography step on Kieselgel.

Spherical Skin Model: Stratified Co‐Culture of Fibroblasts and Keratinocytes on Spherical Beads Toward Compound Screening

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Models of the human skin must combine the relevant biological contents and suitable biomaterials with the correct spatial organization. Performing compound screening on such in vitro models also requires fast and reproducible production methods of the models.
