L-Carnitine Prevents Progression of Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis in a Mouse Model with Upregulation of Mitochondrial Pathway [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a severe form of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease characterized by lobular inflammation, hepatocellular ballooning, and fibrosis with an inherent risk for progression to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC)

Designer Solid Self‐Emulsifying Nanovaccines Enable Dual Modulation of Dendritic Cells and T Cells for Potent Antitumor Immunity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A solid self‐emulsifying (SSE) platform is loaded with peptide antigens and CpG to form the SSE vaccine. An ApoE‐enriched corona promotes dendritic cell internalization, enabling antigen presentation and T cell activation. Squalene from the SSE also sensitizes T cells by promoting lipid raft formation.

Differential effects of dietary supplements on metabolomic profile of smokers versus non-smokers. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
BackgroundCigarette smoking is well-known to associate with accelerated skin aging as well as cardiovascular disease and lung cancer, in large part due to oxidative stress.

The Mitochondrial Guardian α‐Amyrin Mitigates Alzheimer's Disease Pathology via Modulation of the DLK‐SARM1‐ULK1 Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Dietary habits play a key role in chronic diseases, and higher annual consumption of fruit and vegetable may lower risk of dementia. Artificial intelligence predicts the lipid‐like compound α‐Amyrin (αA) from plants with edible peels as a drug candidate against Alzheimer's disease.

Antioxidant and prooxidant activity of alpha-tocopherol in human plasma and low density lipoprotein.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1996
Alpha-Tocopherol is a classical lipophilic antioxidant well known as a scavenger of free radicals in a hydrophobic milieu. However, it can develop both anti- and prooxidant activity in isolated low density lipoprotein (LDL).

Content of fatty acids, vitamin E and carotenoids in milk and herbage as affected by sward composition and period of grazing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The quality of organic milk is affected by feed composition, and especially the high use of legumes has been identified as the reason for high levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids, carotenoids and tocopherols in organic milk. Four different pastures

Effects of symbiotic and vitamin E supplementation on blood pressure, nitric oxide and inflammatory factors in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease [PDF]

open access: yes
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has been suggested to be well correlated with altered blood pressure. This study was conducted to determine the effects of symbiotic and vitamin E supplementation on blood pressure and inflammatory indices of

The Oxidative state of LDL is the major determinant of anti/prooxidant effect of coffee on Cu2+ catalysed peroxidation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Antioxidants exert contrasting effect on low density lipoprotein (LDL) oxidation catalysed by metals, acting as pro-oxidants under select in vitro conditions.

Effects of Alpha- Tocopherol on the Velocity of Low Density Lipoprotein Oxidation by Cupric Ions [PDF]

open access: yesActa Medica Iranica, 2010
We studied the effect of different concentrations of alpha-tocopherol on in vitro cupric ions induced oxidation of low density lipoproteins (LDL). Human native LDL (50 µg protein/ml) oxidation was induced by 10 µmol/L of CuSO4.

Serum Neopterin, Retinol and Alpha-tocopherol in Patients with the Carcinoma of the Esophagus

open access: yesPteridines, 2009
Increased serum or urinary concentrations of neopterin have been described in patients with tumors of different primary locations, but reports on neopterin in patients with esophageal carcinoma are scanty.
