Aluminum Alloy Selection for In Situ Composite Production by Oxygen Blowing
We considered the possibility of using AlMg10, AlCu5, AlCu5Cd, AlSi12, and AlSi7Zn9 as initial alloys for in situ composites production via oxygen blowing of hydrogen pre-saturated melts as an alternative to AlSi7Fe.

Assessment of fatigue fracture surface images is commonly done manually by experts. Although this leads to correct results, it has several disadvantages, for example, the need of a huge knowledge base. Therefore, an unsupervised tool for analysis of overview images of fatigue fracture surfaces is developed to support nonexperienced users to identify ...

3D Investigation of Damage During Strain‐Controlled Thermomechanical Fatigue of Cast Al–Si Alloys
AlSi12Cu3Ni2 alloy with reduced Cu and Mg shows a 45% increase in thermomechanical fatigue (TMF) resistance. 3D investigations reveal preferential crack initiation at large primary Si clusters. AlSi12Cu3Ni2 shows comparatively smaller primary Si clusters and damage initiation and accumulation at later TMF stages.

Herein, the reference radius concept is applied to map the influence of geometric notches on the fatigue strength of laser beam welded joints made of AA7075 and magnetic pulse welded joints of AA7075 and 3D‐printed AlSi10Mg. It is shown that the notch stress fatigue class FAT 178 (v. Mises stress) can be applied for a reliable fatigue assessment.

Oxygen‐Free Production—From Vision to Application
Extremely low oxygen partial pressures can be obtained by adding small amounts of monosilane to an inert gas environment. The effects of such an environment on various production processes such as milling, compound casting, and thermal spraying are analyzed.

The analysis of mechanical properties, corrosion behavior and microstructure revealed that it is feasible to tailor EN AW 7075 parts in advanced processes, e. g. temperature assisted roll forming. Results obtained here revealed that a cooling rate close to the water‐quenched condition can be reached in the advanced thermomechanical process in focus ...
