INFLUENCE OF MODIFICATION ON MICROSTRUCTURE DEGRADATION OF AlSi12 ALLOY EXPOSED TO THE CORROSION ENVIRONMENT [PDF]

open access: yesMETAL Conference Proeedings, 2020
The corrosion resistance of aluminum-silicon (Al- Si) foundry alloys is a result of microstructure development influenced by melt treatment and solidification. As a part of the main eutectic (αAl + βSi), βSi particles are cathodic with respect to the αAl matrix enabling micro-galvanic couple formation and localized corrosion.

Friction Stir Processing Regularities of Cast Aluminum Alloy AlSi12 [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2021
Abstract The paper studies the structure and morphology of the treating zone surface of cast aluminum alloy AlSi12 after 1-4 passes with a friction stir tool. The studies show that after all four passes, the surface of the tool exit zone has traces of material tearing out along the edge of the pin, but the overall appearance of the ...

Characterization of the Bonding Zone in AZ91/AlSi12 Bimetals Fabricated by Liquid-Solid Compound Casting Using Unmodified and Thermally Modified AlSi12 Alloy

open access: yesStrojniški vestnik – Journal of Mechanical Engineering, 2020
Liquid-solid compound casting was used to produce two types of AZ91/AlSi12 joints. The magnesium alloy was the cast material poured onto a solid aluminium alloy insert with an unmodified or modified structure. The bonding zone obtained for the unmodified insert was not uniform in thickness. There was a eutectic region (Mg17Al12 + a solid solution of Al
