Anodizing Al–Si Foundry Alloys: A Critical Review
Compared with pure aluminum and wrought aluminum alloys, Al foundry alloys are more difficult to be anodized. This work aims to critically review the main factors influencing the growth and morphology of the anodic layer in Al–Si foundry alloys. In particular, the effects on the oxide thickness, surface mechanical properties, and corrosion resistance ...

The two‐step process reduces the iron content (Fe) after the separation of Fe‐containing intermetallic particles from the residual melt using a specially developed laboratory filtration apparatus. The highest Fe reduction of ≈50% is obtained at 620 °C, whereas the elements Mn and Cr decrease by ≈66% and 86% after metal melt filtration. The influence of

INFLUENCE OF MODIFICATION ON MICROSTRUCTURE DEGRADATION OF AlSi12 ALLOY EXPOSED TO THE CORROSION ENVIRONMENT [PDF]
The corrosion resistance of aluminum-silicon (Al- Si) foundry alloys is a result of microstructure development influenced by melt treatment and solidification. As a part of the main eutectic (αAl + βSi), βSi particles are cathodic with respect to the αAl matrix enabling micro-galvanic couple formation and localized corrosion.

Manufacturing and Investigation of In Situ and Ex Situ Produced Aluminum Matrix Foam‐Filled Tubes
Low‐cost AlSi12 matrix composite foam‐filled tubes (FFTs) are successfully in situ produced by low‐pressure infiltration with unimodal and bimodal distribution lightweight expanded clay aggregate particles into AlMgSi0.5 alloy tubes. The microstructural and standardized mechanical compressive properties are compared between the T6 treated and non‐heat ...

Friction Stir Processing Regularities of Cast Aluminum Alloy AlSi12 [PDF]
Abstract The paper studies the structure and morphology of the treating zone surface of cast aluminum alloy AlSi12 after 1-4 passes with a friction stir tool. The studies show that after all four passes, the surface of the tool exit zone has traces of material tearing out along the edge of the pin, but the overall appearance of the ...
